You'd think hundreds of thousands were dying in the UK the way people are reacting

the reality is that on an average weekend in London, more people are stabbed to death than have died in the UK from CV

Quite funny really

human nature never ceases to amaze

Apologies! I can see the drop in 98 now but BRENT in the 2016 I can only see circa $36 lowest?

For oil this period right now could turn out to be one of the most difficult times in its history. What with CV ( people not travelling ), recession threats , over supply , global warming etc.

I was there d1nga - although more focused on the dismal UK gas price at the time.

I also remember the China Aviation Oil story a few years later when after a few years of low oil prices the price had started to recover sharply. The firm went bust betting badly on derivatives and I remember a quote attributed to one of the people involved along the lines of "$50/bbl was just wrong" ie they had been so certain it was a temporary spike that they kept increasing their positions to the point of company failure.

The oil price is very difficult to forecast accurately and can make what seem like extreme moves very suddenly and then settle into a new range.

Or 2016 to hit $26 when pfc was at about 700p

Are you looking at annual averages there? Brent went below $10/bbl in 1998 [edit] and 1999 according to the table in this link.

Smith the problem with your theory is that it wont hit $20p pb..Even the most harden scepticist is forecasting $30

HINT: You have to go back to 1947 TO HIT $20!

Interested to see how this will look with oil sub $20 pb.

With oil at those levels there will be an opportunity here and within the majors I guess it’s just a case of how long it stays there .

Oil plunges as Opec output cut talks with Russia hit a wall

Talks between Opec and Russia over whether to cut oil production in response to the coronavirus collapsed without a deal on Friday, sending crude prices plunging more than 8 per cent, to their lowest level in three years.

No OPEC / Russia deal to cut production. Expert on CNBC reckons we might see high 20s in dollars per barrel.
