From the brains of the outfit on the rose tinted and quite deluded board ...

Does Pet still have an interest in the Irish Sea ? It hasn't been mentioned for years.

Mendacious or half eaten cheese sandwich thinking, you decide ?

By banning fracking and all offshore oil and gas exploration, not only would we be doing what we need to do to avoid dangerous climate change, we would also be protecting our local marine environment. Protecting biodiversity is connected to addressing climate change. The most recent research and analysis shows that the seismic activity which accompanies exploration and drilling has significant environmental effects. If we want to protect our fisheries and other marine animal life, we need to stop that seismic activity because it interferes with the zooplankton life cycle. We need to protect our environment, not continue to destroy it. The Prohibition of Fossil Fuels (Keep it in the Ground) Bill 2017 would help that happen.

The Bill will introduce the important definition of climate justice. People say that Ireland is small and does not count. However, we do count. Everyone counts. Our country's emissions are equal to those of 400 million of the poorest people on the earth. Our country has a responsibility for the area of the Atlantic in which it is located in the context of protecting marine life and stopping the ecocide that is occurring across our world. We also have a responsibility to protect the poorest people in the world who are the first to suffer from the effects of climate change.

Iraq begins official talks with the US "Chevron" to develop the Nasiriyah field

2022-03-08 05:05

Shafaq News/ The Ministry of Oil announced on Tuesday that it had held talks with the American "Chevron" company to develop the Nasiriyah field.

This came during a meeting between the Minister of Oil, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar, with the senior management of Chevron, represented by (Jay Pryor) and (Clay Neff), on the sidelines of his participation in the (CERAWEEK 2022) energy conference organized by the Information and Insights Company (HIS Markit in Houston, Texas) for the period from 7-11 March.

And he expressed, during a statement received by Shafak News Agency, the ministry's keenness to develop oil fields in a way that contributes to strengthening the country's economic capabilities.

The Minister of Oil added that "the meeting with the "Chevron" company came to find out the company's procedures and the advanced steps for its agreement with the Dhi Qar Oil Company regarding the development of the Nasiriyah oil field and the construction of infrastructure for oil and gas production."

He pointed out that "this project will contribute to reviving the local economy of the province in addition to developing the national economy of Iraq."

Nasiriyah field is one of the oil fields in Dhi Qar governorate, which was discovered in 1973 and began its experimental work in June 2009 with a capacity of 10,000 barrels per day, and in 2018 its production reached 90,000 barrels per day, with a plan to raise production to 200,000 barrels per day, and raise the capacity to 300 thousand barrels per day.

In November of last year, the Council of Ministers authorized the National Oil Company to negotiate with the American Chevron regarding the development of crude fields in Nasiriyah, in the Dhi Qar Governorate in the south of the country.

The negotiation is related to the implementation of an oil and gas production project that includes the development of 4 exploration areas in the governorate.

The Iraqi Oil Ministry says that its plan in Dhi Qar governorate includes a group of giant projects in the oil, gas and water injection sectors, with an initial target capacity of 600,000 barrels of crude oil per day within seven years of starting work.

She added that the plan may later include the establishment of projects to produce electricity with solar energy.

20 years go by and some people still want to peddle that long dead story.
Why?
Because this is a small , no business , narrative company.
If another people choose to buy the shares they will rise for a while - its worked before.....

That is a assessment based around hard credible legal documention but things are slightly different in the opaque world of Iraqi oil deals. Things are often done with a handshake or nudge and a wink and other Iraqi officials have, in statements, suggested that Petrel does have some rights in the country to Block 6. Its not clear however whether these can actualised or whether PETREL could find a farm-in partner on the basis of of these assurances.

Read to bottom, if this is true, then they own Zero rights to oil in Iraq - what could this really mean - games oh games Oil and Gas Fields: Block 6ScreenHunter_1903 Jul. 23 10.58Name: Block 6Controlled by: Ministry of Oil (Baghdad).Location: The block lies within the southwestern part of Iraqi Western Desert, about 150 km southwest of Al Najaf and covers an area of around 9,000 km2. The block is bounded on the west by the Iraqi-Saudi border line. The block is in the Rutbah-Jezira tectonic zone and includes numerous undrilled structures.Status:The block was offered in the fourth oil licensing round in 2012, but no bids were received.Petrel Resources' claims it was awarded Block 6 in 2002 "subject to ratification"; According to Iraq Business News' Expert Blogger Ahmed Mousa Jiyad, "Its claim of 2002 agreement with the Oil Ministry in Baghdad on an exploration contract over 10,000 sq km in the Western Desert was not supported by credible legal documents. Moreover, the company was not even qualified by the ministry for any bid round when the company applied for such qualification between 2009 and 2011."

the price of 1.80 in 2003 was reached without the company producing 1 barrel of oil or actualising its area 6 lEASE. ANY FARMIN which actually saw the prospect developed would require a share price of a order of magnitude far higher then that top.
A cap of several billion USD in the current climate with Oil at 130 USD heading to 200 USD would be far higher then what it was in those halycon times. Still, until there is actually a farm-in and someone puts their up front payment where their mouth is its all fairy stories.

Exploratory drills in Western Desert blocks

From the June Interims:

In discussions shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic, the authorities suggested that Petrel initially target “exploration of blocks in the western desert of Iraq, and present past studies done on the Merjan-Kifl-West Kifl discoveries, and Petrel’s work on the Mesozoic and Paleozoic plays in the Western Desert.

Thurs 16th Dec
A technical presentation was given to the Oil Minister at the Iraqi Oil Exploration Company headquarters.

The article mentions a focus on ‘direct development’ of 5 of the 16 areas as part of the 2022 budget, and specifically names Al Anz, South Rutba and Akashat (the latter two certainly must have been part of Petrel's Western Desert work.

'

It also mentions drilling of exploratory wells. In the past, Petrel have said they could drill on Block 6 within 12 months of getting the go-ahead.

News article from IOM website:

The head of the National Oil Company, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail, said, "After listening to the technical presentation presented by the committee formed to study the development of exploration blocks in the Western Desert, its 16 exploratory patches represent an important addition to increasing national production, contributing in the future to achieving sustainable development, stressing the need to complete the technical and administrative procedures and the financial allocations required to include a development project of 5 them in the 2022 budget, due to their importance in the optimal investment of gas and meeting the needs local.

Ismail stressed the need to invest all local capabilities and energies, in cooperation with specialized international companies.

It is noteworthy that the technical study...included the identification of 16 exploratory patches in the Western Desert, which are located within vast areas, and that the foundations of the project identified the direct development of 5 areas or patches, most of which are border areas, in which seismic survey activities are targeted, namely Al Anz, South Rutba and Akashat. The study comes in line with the policy of the Ministry and the National Oil Company in selecting patches with low depths to reduce costs and risks. During the technical presentation, expectations, challenges and needs for the implementation of the project were identified, which are included in seismic surveys, and the implementation of processing and interpretation of data resulting from the survey and drilling exploratory well.

AJ, I don't think it's really been off the agenda as far as the Iraqi's are concerned.;)

The Iraq Oil Exploration Company have been conducting (and completed) many seismic projects over the last 6 months and even refer to it as the "Western Desert Gas project' as in the article below.

IOM website 30/9/21:

For his part, Director General of the Oil Exploration Company Basem Muhammad Khudair said that the vision and plans of the Ministry and the National Oil Company stress the importance of conducting and completing seismic surveys in the western region and starting exploratory drilling to determine the hydrocarbon presence of gas, and the Western Desert Gas project will be a separate project for exploration activity, where it will be presenting a working paper and a completed study to the Council of Ministers on the project to obtain fundamental approvals to implement the project for the purpose of directing 2D or 3D seismic surveys and starting exploratory drilling.

I emailed DH on 2nd Oct, quoting the above article:

KD: Hi David, Are we allowed to unofficially feel a modicum of excitement yet?"

DH: "Well spotted!"
