Our roadshow is the culmination of months of preparation. Accountants and lawyers have been crawling all over our books, producing reams of detailed documents. There are rooms full of contracts, verification papers, warranties, indemnities, leases, health warnings and who knows what else. An analyst has carried out a 50-page study of our company. Public relations agents have been discussing our merits with the media. The whole circus costs a fortune in fees but is, I suppose, necessary if a company wants to list on a reputable exchange.

with ficticous history 2 . can you believe him. I don;t. keep digging toooo
he new what the profits were in 2006 so HMRC and SFO should go all the way back. You know everything as a director when you have that size shareholding before flotation.
Read the header on the thread SFO and put all the directors in Gaol where they all belong.
£580m to nil
If they were armed robbers their assets would be seized at sold at public auction along with bank accounts and relations bank accounts.
No apparently this is different as it it is daylight robbery

According to the BBC the company even got the history incorrect about the location of the first shop in Soho and there is doubt about the existence of Madame Valerie!

You could not write it - but LJ or an underling of his did.

He was, and no doubt still is, his own biggest No 1 fan.

That's enough about you, lets talk about how truly great I am.

I wonder what LJ is doing tonight?

He is from my interaction with him a man without a 'rear view mirror' although I think the powers that be will have some questions for him.

I know it's hindsight however all the numbers just looked to regular. A bit like the Madoff 11% return every year.

Well, you could possibly email him again, pointing out he appears to be financially illiterate!

But I expect his mailbox is a trifle overcrowded at present.

£600,000 pa average sales per unit is total Bolox , average Cake / deli sales in the uk is around £220,000 , so it was a scam from day one.

The 15%+ margins were manifest in the flotation prospectus; the 'Behind the Balance Sheet' guy on Radio Four today was saying this was an obvious red flag but neither he nor the institutions buying in or any stockbroking analysts seemed in the slightest bothered until the blow-up.

Has Johnson had his cake and eaten it?
Mr Johnson may be a victim of the alleged fraud. But, if he is, he is not a typical fraud victim: his Pat Val experience has left him at least £20 million, and possibly £30 million better off, given the money he’s taken out of the business since 2014’s float. So how was he so easily fooled by something as simple as cake shops: a cash business with little inventory?

Allegedly, the fraud included secret bank overdrafts with HSBC and Barclays. But what about the stuff he did see? Take Pat Val’s operating margins. Didn’t a man who’d led the Pizza Express, Strada and Belgo restaurant chains query how his cake shops were running at 15%+ margins, while other food and drink rivals, such as Greggs, Wetherspoons and The Restaurant Group, could only manage about 8%? Or, as FT Alphaville pointed out, didn’t he think average annual sales per café looked a bit odd? It stayed uncannily the same at £600,000 for 5 years, despite changing economic weather and the expansion of the chain from 128 to 192 stores. Mr Johnson, who’s hardly been forthcoming so far, still has plenty of questions to answer. It’s anything but business as usual for him.
