30/9/2015 13:05 | Patagonia Gold ramps up exploration despite low gold price he broker reckons the company's project portfolio, which is located in an established mining state, “remains attractive in our view.” Lower gold prices and problems in Argentina hit Patagonia Gold (LON:PGD) in the first half but things could be on the up suggests broker Cantor Fitzgerald. First half sales fell 10% to US$14mln compared to the year before as pre-tax losses widened to US$6.3mln from US$4.8mln. However, the broker reckons the company's project portfolio, which is located in an established mining state, “remains attractive in our view.” Exploration on the 40,000 hectare La Paloma block, which features the Lomada project, has started, and will run on into 2016. It is hoped this will extend the mine life at Lomada through the discovery of additional resources. Production from the Lomada de Leiva project was hit by restrictions on the importation of spare parts for its machinery, resulting in lower machine availability. As a result, the company is now working on a revised forecast and production schedule for the next 12 months. However, the broker reckons “while operating in Argentina has provided operating challenges for PGD above and beyond the current gold price environment, the general election next month may relieve some of these issues.” At the larger Cap-Oeste project, on the El Tranquilo licence block, test work continues for a solution to recover the gold trapped in the refractory portion and non-refractory mineralisation. A mine design accessing only the super high grade portion of the Cap-Oeste mineralisation is underway. Meanwhile, exploration on the La Manchuria block has resumed and drilling is due to start later this year. During the period, Patagonia hired Christopher van Tienhoven, a specialist in mining M&A in South America. Carlos Miguens, chairman, said: “We welcome him and look forward to working with him and believe that his experience will significantly add to the company going forward.” | robers98 | |
