Could anyone explain the dividend policy here. It seems the management pay an interim but no final .

ps. love the tag line 'Creating long-term capital growth '... aka we destroy it they [Wilsons] create it !

ajbird,

We already know the Wilson & Son's numbers for the 3rd quarter (see post 1551 for link to it or go to the Wilson & Sons website and you can click the link there)

They will be good financially based on that data.

The problem is the OCN investment portfolio which isn't the best at the best of times, so there could be some pretty poor numbers to come from it given how poor the 3rd quarter was around the world.

ajbird,

No Wilson & Son 3rd quarter results are due for release on 14th November.

So we may get an OCN quarterly update on 15th November.

Doubled my holding here.

The company is run for the directors, 100%. But the Discount to NAV on offer is too tempting. Wilson Sons seems to be, strategically, in a great position.

Got it, thanks!

I'm interested in Argentina's fortunes (BUR) YPF litigation, this is very helpful.

flyfisher,

To be honest, I can't remember what I did or didn't do about it.

I'll re-look at it after the quarterly update comes out.

Wilson & Sons seem to be doing very well when you look at the operational data for the 3Q

The worry for me is how poorly the OCN investment portfolio will be doing in the meantime & what pathetic excuses they will be dreaming up to cover it & Hanseatic keeping control of it.

The Wilson & Sons interim dividend has been paid out yet OCN are totally silent on the matter, keeping shareholders in the dark as usual.

They last paid an interim div in 2012 and in 2013 consolidated it into the final.

Unless Wilsons do something unusual and declare a final div which is lower than the interim, then i think it is a reasonable expectation that we will be in for an increase this year.

90c would give a yield of 7.6%.

Thanks for bringing it up, it may be a reason for some interest in the stock.

flyfisher,

Sorry, my mistake then, I've been under the impression it hadn't been fully passed on for some time now.

I guess it was to do with them paying out part of the investment portfolio by way of a dividend & then changing that policy.

There was definitely one point in time when all of the Wilson & Sons dividend wasn't passed on to us, but I can't say when.

It has been fully passed on in recent years.
Last year OCN received $22.6m Wilsons dividend and paid out $24.8m.

flyfisher,

So far Ocean Wilson's has shown no inclination to increase the dividend payout to us. It has been at $0.70 for a number of years now, even although the Wilson & Sons amount has increased slightly its not been fully passed on to OCN shareholders.

They could have paid out the interim dividend they received at the very end of December last year to us, but chose not to.

It would be far better if they had 2 payments per year or even quarterly instead of 1 as it would stop the share price dropping as much when it goes XD.

Remember each OCN share effectively owns just over 7 Wilson & Sons shares (248.644M / 35.363M).

So OCN will be receiving close to $16M of that $28M on the link, as a dividend this time round which if they passed it on to us would be just over $0.45 currently. I'm sure virtually everyone would be happy to receive $0.40 in November/December & the rest in June. Just not sure that's OCN's intentions

Lotm, Thanks for that.

I see the interim div that wilsons paid is 70% of last years total payout. Is it reasonable to assume that wilsons will pay a final dividend of the same or greater.
If so, then it would imply that OCN would be in position to pay out a 90c dividend, should it choose to pass it on to holders.

OCN has in recent years passed slightly more than the wilsons dividend income on to holders.

I'm surprised no-one has picked up on the fact that Wilson & Sons have declared an interim dividend !

Doesn't look like Ocean Wilson's is going to pay it out to its shareholders until next year.

Just a snippet, from across the water (Congo-Brazzaville) :

..""Congo Terminal, a subsidiary of AGL (Africa Global Logistics) and operator of the container terminal at the autonomous port of Pointe-Noire, announced on 13 September that it had renewed its ISO 9001 certification for its activities in the following areas : loading, unloading, storage of containers, transhipment and delivery of containers for import and export."

Renewal is for a 3 year period. PN is arguably the best natural deepwater port in (southern) West Africa.

This company is part of the MSC logistics empire that recently took over Bollore Logistics Africa and is supposedly separately in acquisition talks with Ocean Wilsons (OCN) in Brazil.

The new concessionaire for Pointe Noire (and a possible build-out) is AbuDhabi Ports, which is expanding its footprint beyond the M East , into Africa and Europe (most recently with the acquisition of Spain's Noatum group).

hxxps://www.adportsgroup.com/en/news-and-media/2022/11/18/acquisition-of-noatum-propels-ad-ports-group-to-become-a-global-logistics-platform

If you look at the pie-chart of ADPorts revenue, Latin America is the obvious next stop on its way to being truly 'global'.

Abu Dhabi has just joined the BRICS South-south alliance (alongside Argentina).

Let's see if 'the trend is our friend' - Wilson Sons would be a very synergistic bolt-on, IMO.

NAI, DYOR etc etc
