My NHS dentist has cancelled my check-up and can not offer me another appointment. The practice has released locums and is now understaffed, doing emergency only. The staff say they do not know when this will change and they are not sure about their own job situation.

There are generally positive reports on the latest German CPI of 2.2% but it's up 1.7% in the last 6 months alone. There could be a shock when the benign figures from last summer drop out this autumn.

Not had much time to look on here these past 48 hours, thanks wllm for the numbers, my leapfrogging a couple of places was down to adding in monthly dividends.

Agree wllm, wishing the SNP a comprehensive wipeout.

Actually watched an England match from start to finish for once, usually get bored. Was that goal of the tournament?

Summer snow is predicted for southern Norwegian mountains on Friday. I'm guessing we're going to have a cold week here? It's also colder than average and snow is predicted in the NWP. I've got an eye on Thursday when a prediction of -1C verges on a record seasonal low for Resolute, which is in the middle.

I'm taking No.1 out for a walk (Teacher training day) and am going to wrap up as the wind is rising and the temperature dropping as a front goes through. After a sunny morning, I think wllmherk weather has reached us. Hopefully, viruses don't travel as well from up there. (Get well soon.)

This is the coldest Spring and Summer we've had in 9 years here - two weeks of nice spring weather and only 4 days of warm summer so far. I'm not sure where had this warmest May ever. We have to run the main shower on economy for about 4 months in summer as incoming piped water warms up and it's slightly too powerful. It's still on regular setting this year. March to June, we've used 25% more gas than last year. To make matters worse, I'm not even having to water flowers and potatoes, and I'm still having to pick and choose times for walks, runs, cycling and garden jobs - though they have been comfortably cool.

Edit - summer snow cover is high in the Northern Hemisphere:

Double extent

4 times the equivalent water mass.

The bigger excess is actually on the Russian side so I must wonder if the NEP/Nothern Route will open without a storm, too. It's still looking well blocked atm.

Some good manufacturing PMIs posted for Asia as Europe flounders. China edged up to 51.8 from 51.7 as new orders rose a 4th month. Vietnam leapt to 54.7 from 50.3 with orders surging to highest since 2011. Europe fell to 45.7. UK eased to 50.7 with an unusual comment:

Data broken down by company size provided a more mixed
picture. Output growth was confined to large-scale producers,
as contractions were signalled for both small and medium-
sized enterprises. The same trend was seen for demand, with
new orders rising at large firms and falling at SMEs.

wllm, there's so many viruses about. I brought one back from our holiday in Spain nearly two months ago (most likely picked it up on the plane). I've had a mild sore throat and severe catarrh in the sinuses on and off since. Just started to clear up a week ago and about gone now.

It's cloudy and drizzle here, went to Morrisons this morning and temperature gauge showing 13c, hardly July weather.

I would concur MrP, I predict Labour will be a disaster but hope I'm wrong. Segment on GB news this morning highlighting that Starmer will win the election with a lower share of the vote than Corbyn got in 2019. Two things I hope for, a really good night for Reform UK which will force the Conservatives to be Conservative and an absolute mauling for the SNP. I have never detested a political party more.

Do any of you follow American politics, their election is fascinating, I would highly recommend the Meygan Kelly show podcast on youtube, Meygan and her guests provide excellent analysis.

Mrs wllmherk has had a virus and cough for nearly 4 weeks, I woke up this morning to a headache, cough and feeling lethargic, so she has finally infected me. Did I get an apology, nothing?

Morning All.

We were at a family gathering yesterday afternoon and the football got turned on as people started leaving which was around 15 minutes before normal full time. At 93 minutes, we were preparing to leave (assuming a loss) but that late goal did seem to breathe some life into the game so we ended up staying until the end and (probably shouldn't say so, but) left feeling sorry for Slovakia who probably deserved the win. All credit to those that managed to watch the whole thing from the start!

wllm, thanks for updating the chart and great to see everyone still hanging on to positive territory. Worrying what will happen after Thursday. As bad as things are in some ways, I do think it would have been even worse had ANY of the others been in power.

Good morning. Sunny with a bit of high cloud. Just been watching a vole competing with blackbirds for the last of the crumbs on the terrace. They are all being brave since the local sparrowhawk has been seen a few times in the last week, sending the woodpigeons scattering in a panic.

England have good players but they do not look fit. Play slow/cautious football all the time and eventually you are not fit enough to play fast/creative football when you need to. Southgate needs to take the brakes off. We've been very lucky with his tactics so far.

Many economists are more focused on the problem of filling vacancies. There are more than 700,000 open positions than there were during the pandemic in March 2020.

Misleading I think. ONS job vacancies were 760k+ in late 2018 and drifted down into the recession that looked to be starting in Q1/2020 - before Covid hit. A couple of months of Covid took it down to 297k. Allowing for population growth through mostly working immigrants (domestic population is falling), vacancies are now about the same as before the slowdown and Covid, at 790k. Job vacancies are not 700k higher at all. They are about the same, but falling worryingly and it is unemployment that is getting high again.
