I wish you good luck. When I do reearch, I find punters don't seem to have any idea what is going on and often the technicians seem clueless and are just pushing their own vested interest. The comments section is very offputting for any serious investor. It feels like the West Coast gold rush again. Most people had their hopes dashed and made no money in that unless they owned the hardware stores or saloons.

The picture gallery is worth a look - snow on hills over large areas of the UK.

Widespread snow forecasted for Europe next week, including most of France.

Scottish ski season to kick off early?

Aleman - I understand your concerns, 3 cents to $8400 in 7 years is pretty spectacular. It's easy for me to stay long as I bought them a long time ago and the position is more than paid for so I can look at it as a bit of fun. I sold quite a few coins in the summer at around $4500 thinking the rise was too fast and now look where we are! I'm keeping the rest, a million dollars a coin or bust!

spittingbarrel - an anecdote suggesting that Bitcoin is popular in the black economy does not encourage me either! Also, the fact it is racing up puts me off. It smells too much like a bubble, with most "investors" looking to flip it rather than spend it, eventually. I'd actually be more inclined to buy if it went up slowly. What goes up can come down. What goes up quickly ...

A fairly hard frost this morning. -1.8C here.

A lovely sunny day with no real breeze to speak of. It was very pleasant outside but noticeably cold in the shade. Unfortunately the Blue sky was the only blue today, with my portfolio awash with red.

-0.03%, which is a lot better than my monitor suggests. CINE is again the worst value faller and ICP is today's best value riser.

YTD now stands at +15.47%. I will need a good run in the early part of next week to steer November away from being a down month.

Have a good weekend all. :-)

I keep reading Bitcoin is secure and that it isn't. This suggests the coins are secure but the wallets are not. It's not convincing me to consider swapping any other assets into cryptocurrencies. Comments welcome.

I'm down -0.255% on the day today (FTSE!)) -0.102%), but up +0.61% on the week (FTSE100 +0.39%) and up +3.99% YTD (FTSE100 +3.74% and HIX +0.74%).

Worst falls: CLLN -10.81%, TW. -2.39% and TATE -1.51%.

Best rises: SMDS +1.02%, RB. +0.78% and AV. +0.69%.

Not surprised to have a down day after four consecutive rises. CLLN continues on its merry way. Too late to bail out.

+2°C this morning but it clouded over. We had a pub lunch from whence we had to go elsewhere, when their car park was being resurfaced, a couple of weeks ago. Back to normal today.

Wrap up well and enjoy your weekend.

Mr P - These are the only European countries not in the EU or EFTA: Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Kosovo, Lichtenstein, Macedonia, Russian Federation, Ukraine, and Vatican City State (Holy See).

Looks like we are joining a right bunch!

spittingbarrel, fair enough and thanks for that, I hadn't read the rules although I should have assumed it was all part of the "club"! Just that I get fed up of people ranting on about how we are coming out of Europe so I'm wondering if they're going to take a pair of scissors to all those maps!

I am rather concerned.

IMHO inflation is taking off.

To understand this, take soap.

The cheapest I was able to buy this in the high st was from ASDA 3 bars 125g each for 35p. I used to buy in bulk so it is a few months since I last purchased.
I was recently rather shocked to find it 65p.
There are no discounts special offers or the like in this.
I have trawled round the other supermarkets and the cheapest now are
Aldi and Lidl, 4 bars 125g for 79p.
The other mainstream supermarkets now want 120p plus for 4 bars 125g.

The problem is not workers earning more and driving up prices.
The problem IMHO is money escaping from the residential property mkt via remortgaging and the like. ie the problem is borrowed money and debt.
We need substancial interest rate rises fast and a halt to house price rises.
The problems are to little supply of houses and excessive net immigration adding to genuine demand (as opposed to speculative investment demand).

IMHO the economy is in far more dangerous territory than generally realised.

............................................................................

On to another matter, doubsing ie finding water with a bit of wire. The Telegraph has had articles of late suggesting it works.
It is said not to be scientific since no one has a glib answer as to how it works.
Since it seems to work, scientific study is needed to understand how it works, we may as a consequence learn something new of more general significance.
Science is littered with observations that are unexplainable until they are explained. Mickolson Morley (spelling?) experiment.

Mr P - It has everything to do with Brexit. The rules clearly state that to be a host country you have to be in the EU, a member of EFTA or be in the process of applying to be a member of the EU. By 2023 the UK will be none of those things - end of.

Funny old week, done better (less badly) than I thought! SIPP -0.01%, pot -0.16% and the Virgin ISA +0.59% taking the YTD figures to; SIPP +2.57%, pot +9.61% and the Virgin ISA +7.32%

Colder weather has arrived, will be chilly doing tree work up at the woods tomorrow but hope to return with more logs!

Wrap up warm and enjoy your weekends.

What on earth can this have to do with Brexit, we will still be part of Europe and there is no reason on this earth that a British city shouldn't be able to hold that title after Brexit.

Have to admit that my managed funds are saving me from disaster at the moment as I seem to be far better choosing them than the individual shares! Out of 19 funds, 17 of them were up this week!

Grid demand already into amber and looks set to move into the red in late afternoon. There is spare capacity in the continuous generating sectors to just about cover that 5-6GW - but then how do we cover the 3GW drop in solar? Temporary sources may or may not cover it. Interconnectors will probably be make it okay today but it will also show that we are sailing very very close to the wind after shutting the big coal fired stations in Yorkshire. What happens if other countries can't spare any to top us up?

I had a look at WYG, MrP. I think the lesson is to worry if Chairman and CEO announce resignations that allow them to cash in shares.

I'm not doing so well again. I have red everywhere so I'm set for my 5th down day this week. No real big falls - but constant small ones on no news make me wonder if UK investors have switched to sell mode. It certainly feels like all the optimism has dained away. Maybe, it will pass but the shower we have in charge of the UK inspire no confidence and the potential replacements look even worse.
