23/11/2017 20:02 | A mixed bag but negative again. -0.2%. It was a lovely day - if you stayed indoors! It never really warmed up and the wind made it feel chilly. 8.7C. Much of Scotland where the snow settled remained under 5C and some are already subzero. I think we might get there, too, as it's already under 4C. I noticed the rivers filled up overnight so there must have been a lot of rain further north. More credit cycle news Another new payments system - using any main currency or gold, run through Mastercard. | aleman
23/11/2017 19:32 | A somewhat disappointing -0.28% today. CINE is the worst value faller on releasing a trading statement which looked okay to me. VED fell but by much less than the dividend so that at least is a plus. INVP is a very modest best value riser. A lovely sunny morning gave way to showers and wind at lunchtime. A flat tyre on a new section of bridleway was the final nail in the coffin and put an early end to my bike ride. Thankfully the self-sealing tube worked its magic whilst I was out on the trail and all that was needed was a few pounds of air to give me enough tyre pressure to get safely home. I pulled 5 thorns from the tyre when I got home, two of which had penetrated the tyre wall. It may be the only puncture this year, from memory, so I am not doing too bad. | hyden
23/11/2017 18:55 | I'm up +0.111% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.024%). Best rises: S32 +20.36%, WMH +1.09% and TW. +1.86%. Worst falls: CLLN -3.90%, NG. -2.8% XD and MARS -2.02%. S32 had their AGM in OZ earlier today, and the market seemed to like what was siad. It appears that some Oz company wants to merge with WMH. TW. recovered from yesterday's reaction to the Budget. I had NG. and VOD go XD today. MARS report next Wednesday. An excellent visit to the Lifeboat station today. They have a TAMAR and a D-class for inshore work. The guide knew his stuff. There were 15 of us, so I hope that they got some good donations. We had a good lunch afterwards at the Amsterdam Inn. Some wind damage last night, with a branch down across the footpath to the village. Still attached to the tree, so not possible to shift it myself. Hopefully somebody from the Council can do it today. We had a brief shower while I was walking home from the paper shop, then it cleared up and we had clear blue skies all day. DF | deanforester
23/11/2017 18:10 | Very very windy last night. Forecast to be windy tonight. This is awesome. Interesting chart in here. Seems like the SPD (social democrats) are being bullied into doing a deal with Merkel their leader does not want to. This may be of interest to some as Bitcoin goes mainstream. | freddie ferret
23/11/2017 17:55 | Thanks Shadowside, interesting article! | mrphil

23/11/2017 16:55 | Shadowside, I think Jag are missing a trick not keeping people bubbling on the iPace (I haven't heard a word since registering a year ago) as there will be a lot more choice by the time that's available. Main attraction for me was the brand and the fact it's built here, but both the iPace and ePace are built in Austria! No great movements today overall, SIPP +0.08% with (wait for it) UU. in top risers position and helped by BP. and AGL. Not so good for the pot which drifted slightly to -0.05% due to AMS & LLOY Forgot to mention, Tesco came good with the work wine last night with 25% off 6 or more bottles, so 36 bottles of nice wine for £188. Second episode of Love, Lies & Records tonight. Thought that was quite good last week. | mrphil
23/11/2017 16:46 | I read somewhere that the batteries in South Australia didn't actually come from Tesla. Now if only he could subcontract the manufacture of the Model 3 he might be OK! Lots of news about the big boys gearing up for electric cars. 35 billion from VW, a similar amount from GM. I think there is going to be some tough competition. | shadowside
23/11/2017 16:24 | Britannia have finally decided to close down our old Regular Saver Cash ISA which only pays 0.1% but has a 3% bonus as long as you meet all the criteria - which we have done every year so we have been enjoying 3.1% since 2009! I was hoping to string it out until 2019 when I can use it to pay off the mortgage, but that's taken a chunk off of my calculations! | mrphil
23/11/2017 15:26 | Aleman, I think this US style Black Friday event (which seems to last at least a week) must bring forward a certain amount of Christmas shopping. Even I got sucked in (no pun intended!) as B&Q have the Karcher window vac on offer, but we were about to buy one anyway so actual sales will be lower than they would have been! FSB seem to be happy with the budget | mrphil
23/11/2017 14:21 | Looks like Mr Musk's stunt in South Australia might have paid off then! He can build a massive battery plant but can't screw together a couple Model 3's! | mrphil
23/11/2017 11:42 | Not convinced they are all going to help my business, but not all bad. | mrphil
23/11/2017 11:18 | Just spoken to a colleague in Perth and they have snow there. | mrphil
23/11/2017 10:53 | Seems to be snow everywhere but the lowest levels in Scotland Avalanche warning issued ahead of official avalanche risk assessment season start. 5.2C here to start. Okay now but a bit chilly in the wind before the sun made itself known. | aleman
23/11/2017 10:50 | Topped up on AGL this morning as I really like what they are doing. From an investment point of view probably a bit risky but huge potential. | mrphil
23/11/2017 10:32 | Great Lakes ice shows up on the chart 2-3 weeks early. Add them all together and Arctic sea ice on the Canadian side is ABOVE the satellite era average this ice season so far. | aleman
23/11/2017 09:29 | Morning All. I think there is still utility bashing going on which doesn't help matters. Only half of the NG. fall seems to be down to xd and it (together with SSE) have fallen on other news. UU. for once does seem to be bucking the trend! I read that the budget increased the pension lifetime allowance from next year, but by a paltry £30K so goodness knows what that's all about? | mrphil
23/11/2017 09:13 | With CNA I assume its the number of customers they have lost that is spooking the market. Maybe competition is beginning to work. Its always staggered me that so many customers stick with their incumbent supplier when switching is so easy. Essentially Centrica have no defensive moat apart from customer inertia. I'm with OVO and their IT systems are orders of magnitude better and I would have thought highly scaleable so maybe in the longer term CNA will have no customers. | shadowside
23/11/2017 08:03 | Not sure. Basically says dividend seems okay - for now. | aleman
23/11/2017 07:42 | Whats your take on CNA Aleman, I thought it was an in line statement but share price expected to fall 3-5% this morning ? wllm | wllmherk
22/11/2017 22:12 | +0.24% today, mostly small movers but VED is a stand out best value riser. ISAT and RPC also put in encouraging performances. AV. is the worst value faller. Drizzle and strong winds all afternoon. Tomorrow is forecast to be sunny but the strong winds remain. :-( | hyden
22/11/2017 18:59 | DF, most of the problem with land held around here is due to owners trying to pitch one developer against another to squeeze the best price. As you say, much of the rest is just on options. Enjoy the Lifeboat tomorrow, I'm a great supporter of RNLI as you would expect! | mrphil |
