More weather sources are swinging behind an Arctic blast on Friday. Some have large amounts of snow for Europe and some less so. Meteociel still forecast widespread snow for the UK extending down the western coasts and around Cornwall and along the south coast and penetrating inland to low levels. The only bits without snow indicated are actually those areas that had it this week. So, it looks like everyone else might be about to get their first taste of winter. We had lots of traffic accidents, partly from snow an dpartly from ice. Hopefully the rest of you will do bettter.

Morning

I was +0.34% on Fri, making a gain of +0.72% over the week. Bank pref shares did well last week plus expected good results from IGR.
Have increased my cash with a couple of sales recently.
This last Thurs was a good day for the accrued dividends with five posted to my accounts, even Barclays Smart Investor have improved re crediting of dividends even over their previous incarnation where there was always a delay.
Folio YTD +13.2%

Preparing for the Arctic blast later next week, here is Weather Outlook's take..

I have posted on May v Trump here.

A brief comment on Merkel and the possibility of a coalition.
Seems the CSU part of the combined CSU/CDU party, the CSU being the Bavarian bit are now at war with themselves, seems factions are pushing for a new CSU leader who not as Merkel friendly as their current leader. Talks between CDU/CSU and the SPD do not seem to have got far little being reported.

I hope the following may be helpfull.

The homepage of TD Direct Investing currently has posted up the top 100 index risers and fallers for the day. It also has posted up the tope 250 index risers and fallers for the day.
These two sets of superficially very obvious lists are not available on ADVFN.
This is not available at weekends when the markets are closed. You will have to wait till Monday.

Good Morning.

A pleasant day in London yesterday and not too cold.

I fell asleep on the train home, but woke up at my station, so the homing device must still be working!

My SIPP finished down 0.39%, down 0.62% on the week and is +10.20% YTD.

Enjoy your weekend.

+0.11% today, with a small number of strong risers outweighing the myriad of small fallers. ISAT is a most welcome best value riser and I hope that the tide has now turned as I was very close to selling out. :-( MARS and CSN are also notable risers, and ICP is today's worst value faller.

A lovely ride through local woods and hillsides today. Whilst it was very muddy in places, I found the ride to be most pleasant overall, with the tree canopy providing welcome relief from the cold temperatures. :-)

Perhaps more of the same tomorrow, I am not sure. The highlight of the weekend will be our extended family ice skating celebrations on Sunday, the festive season begins. :-)

Have a good weekend all.

I'm down -0.320% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.357%), down -0.02% on the week (FTSE100 -1.47%) but up +3.96% YTD (FTSE100 +2.21% and HIX -0.09%).

Worst falls: SSE -2.26%, LLOY -1.89% and UU. -1.71%.

Best rises: INDV +3.02%, BATS +2.04% and MARS +1.65%.

Confucius had an expression for it: "Intersting times". Any rumour or the word "challenging" is enough to sink a share by several points. Corbyn being put on the cover of a magazine frightens the bankers. A few flakes of snow puts the wind up the public. Wetherspoons were short of staff today, some Lithuanians must have gone home for Christmas.

+1°C this morning with a biting wind. It might have got up to +4°C during the day, but it didn't feel like it. Roll on the weekend.

Enjoy it if you can.

Oh, keep warm and dry and have a good weekend. They say it will be warmer but I doubt a 6C midday will keep me warm at football when the sun is gone and they have been overforecasting temperatures of late. Long johns tomorrow, I suspect!

4% on CNCT, 5% on ISAT and sudden 10% jump on NAHL lifted me 1.2% today. That undid several of my 12 consecutive falls of late. YTD +4.5%.

Only marginally warmer, today. +3.3C after -0.6C. The snow lingers in the shadows locally and can be seen on the wolds so one would guess cold air might run into valleys overnight, yet the forecast is a low of 3C. Not sure how that works with a current temperature of 2.2C. I note the Met Office forecast of 10C and dry for next Thursday seems to clash with Meteociel's snow.

The grid seems to be struggling a bit, with less wind today. Coal, combined and Bio are running at limit, Nuclear still seems constrained (been stuck at 6 or so for several days) and they've cranked up pumped and hydro which can't run indefinitely. I'd like to see an official comment but it looks to be creaking a bit to me.

Coal was actually running at 10.2 recently - past the red line limit.

What just dumped the Dow over 300 points in several minutes? Bond yields kicked down as well.

Edit - make that nearly 400 points.

30%+ sea ice has extended even further from Greenland to Iceland and it looks like it might even extend all the way in the next few days. The last time I have found that happening is March 1979. The strange thing is it is still over 3 months to the normal iciest part of the season.

I'd be very pleased to reach year end in positive territory. You may recall I targetted -15% on expectation the market would turn down. I was premature but the market feels increasingly like it might correct.

Today's fall makes it look like a "death cross" is getting closer and likely to arrive BEFORE Christmas - but would an international index like the FTSE100 fall while other global indices didn't? Other global indices' are not giving quite the same signal - but could reversing QE deflate them as well?

Shadowside, I have used up almost every penny of cash in the SIPP so unless I sell something I'll have to wait for the ALD proceeds before being tempted! I tend to agree with your "Santa rally" sentiments but will probably be happy to reach the end of the year with a positive result after the last few weeks.

Commiserations on FDI Mr P. My ventures into mining have usually come unstuck as well. Not for widows and orphans.

A balmy 3 degrees up here now. An inch of snow lying on the ghround but rain is forecast so it won't last long.

I wonder if we will have a "Santa rally" this year? My hunch is not. Will be happy to get through to year end with current position intact. Have taken most of my cash holding out of HL to minimise temptation.

It started freezing here at tea time but snow started again and we had several bouts of blizzard that made the driving very troublesome from East Leeds through the Vale of York. Drivers slowed to 20-30mph as the A64 and motorways dropped to a single slushy lane. Gritters were conspicuously missing but I think they may have been misled by tv meteorologists trying to play it down.Things cleared a bit around midnight but then freezing became an issue. Mrs A reported a couple of accidents on her way to work after I helped her clear her car of frozen snow. It seems there have been more.
