nice to see that even after a noticeable rise in share price over previous days/weeks, the share price is up again....

cooking with gas ! (Aussie gas of course !)

----

very strong results from Ashtead btw
and getting 18% ROCE !

fingers crossed that NBI is also trading well

(other ideas for the price rise and buys by the chairman and Blackrock (1/4M squid I think !
- perhaps the recent rise in oil price (good news for activity in oil sector in Auz , for Tasman Oil subsidiary and Middle east oil subsidiary)
- perhaps the increase in Auz dollar wrt GB pnd. assisting the Tasman profit numbers when reported in GB pounds in the NBI account...and I guess the value of the Tasman assets in pnds as well).

...another option might be ...acquisition of NBI by AN Other, for cash or shares

who knows....

hopefully we will see some good news of some sort in coming months

Nice to see that despite a noticeable run up in price recently...from 460p to 510p...with a good part of that in last few days....the share price has not fallen back down a bit, as one might have expected...especially when FT250 is down almost 2% today

(hopefully my small NAS 100 short has done nicely over night !)

interesting thought....

as you say, nice to see the very high % of the co. owned by instituts.

(and yes, they have done well since listing....although the price rise since 250p is more due to P/E increasing rather than direct EPS increase...they have to deliver now on the promise included in the current share price,....... with the chairman and Blackrock share buys, hopefully indicates that a good chance that they will, this year anyway....imho)

with the price doubling from 250p since last year...a lot of happy shareholders

It is the stated aim of the company to grow by strategic acquisition, which it has done very successfully. if a new bolt on also provided for a growth in eps, then new shares are warranted. I calculate that the average eps growth has been at a compound rate of 12 per cent since the IPO. throw in the AIM tax advantages and this company must be nearly in a league of its own. as it grows it is appearing on a growing number of radars. It must be frustrating if you are a fund manager with no stock available to buy. Hence, if there is an imminent cash call it will not be at a discount, it might even be at a premium.

Have directors taken part in a placing to fund a prior acquisition? The record share price represents a good time to put some cash in the bank or reduce gearing to provide firepower for when the time is right. the time to sell shares is when there is demand

would the rules allow the chairman to make a share buy if a major acquisition was in fact reported ?

my guess would be no...

smithie6

expect a large placing of stock and a major purchase.

this share must surely be the most illiquid for the cap. value on the mkt.

holders dont want to sell !..small buys and the price goes up..nice indicator imo...hopefully turn out to be right/correct

---

ref. the chairman's buy....when he already has loads....and 50k share buy by Blackrock...to go over 10%...

hopefully indicators that reduce the risk factor for the results for this year.....ie. that those 2 seem to think that things are looking good/solid at the moment...and the chairman should have a fair idea...if the chairman saw a lot of risk for this year's results I doubt he would be buying now

yep...looking strong...

nice to see today that the chairman has added..to have even yet more shares (hopefully a +ve sign)...and also Blackrock...to now have over 10%.

I avoided that pain !...since I saw it was going so badly...

btw
Murray was thrashing Nadal the last time they played, and I think that was on clay
had Nadal going from corner to corner and hitting amazing winners which Nadal could only watch (difficult vs Nadal since he gets almost everything back)....Murray's level was world no.1....
sadly Murray missed a few key pts and let the match slip away...

the level from the mens players recently is unbelievable...(cant say that for the women !) ...hitting close to the lines at full power corner to corner for maybe 20 ball rallies without a mistake...amazing.

hopefully be a great final with 2 brilliant players.

(I dont know if NBI plc could apply for any of the 400Bn E from the ECB, lending. first to banks I think....
but NBI did buy a company in Europe (transformers etc), low countries, in Eurozone....and they surely could.

Reqts. are I think
- solvent
- some track record
- etc

which they meet

....being close to Brussels might help quick processing...and not being based in say...Greece, which might require more checks/controls !

Update
Fin. costs. 1/2M in year just ended.
So if halved then only saves 250k....not that much.
...but if long term low cost money was available....then it would enable double the debt level for the same cost which would/could have noticeable impact to EPS if resulting assets aquired produced turnover and profit, if decided prudent to do something like that...

---
and/but...!
the purchase price for any acquisitions may have just increased....
while the value of NBI as an acquisition for a bigger fish has perhaps also just increased...if the bigger fish was able to get cheap financing to fund such an acquisition via the Draghi money, 400BnE.

(the politicians and their friends in southern and Eastern European countries will already have started planning how they can get some of that 400Bn into their own ...back pockets !!)

"Draghi cheap business loan scheme ...400Bn euros...can UK cos. (NBI ) use it or is it for Eurozone only ??"

...there is talk of companies being able to re-finance....replace higher cost loans with new lower costs loans...(idea being to grow companies, not sure that will happen in reality or if just happily produce a benefit to the EPS numbers and the solidity of various company accounts !?)

'If' NBI could borrow at a low rate....3% ?....then its EPS instantly increases imo (I guess it pays around 6% at present +/- X, without checking)

or
it could borrow double the amount of money (and have more rental kit) ....for the same cost....and get more rental income since more rental kit

The business is buoyant..recent AGM statement lends support

'As indicated at the time of our Preliminary results in April, we have enjoyed a good start to 2014, with a strong first quarter and continuing contributions from both sales and rental activities. Our cash flow remains strong which will enable net gearing to reduce further by the end of 2014. We are pleased with the Group's progress so far this year and continue to be confident in the Group's prospects. We expect results for 2014 as a whole to be in line with management's expectations.

David I intended to but have been busy with other things all week so couldn't go. I would also be pleased to hear any feedback. I have been invested since around 2010.
