Nsf are attempting to buy Provident.

They are a minnow versus a whale but they have two killer whales on their side.

Woodford and Barnet own 49% of provident between them and over 50% of Nsf.
And they are backing it!

The guy running NSF previously ran Provident for 20 plus years and has strong ideas on exactly what to do if/when this take over goes through to get the company motoring again.

Is it opportunistic? Yes.

Is it worth backing? Yes in my view.so I have.

Gloves off this morning. We will fight you all the way and delay as long as possible while collecting our massive salaries and applying for our next jobs. Because NSF look set to sack the entire board of PFG and they know it.

Interesting response from Provident. It looks like they didn't know what was going on. The NSF announcement said they had the approval of a majority holding of Provident shares. So either the shareholders want to kick out the Provident management and asked NSF to step in. Or NSF managed to make such a good case to the major shareholders that they are on board.

Edit
NSF announcement:
''Transaction formally supported by shareholders holding over 50 per cent. of Provident's share capital, representing a significant statement of support in favour of the NSF management and its future plans''

PFG reply
''The Board of Provident Financial plc ('Provident Financial 'or the 'Group') notes the unsolicited offer for Provident Financial announced this morning by Non-Standard Finance plc ('NSF').''

Or a shark trying to swallow a dead whale? As a long term prov holder I don't know whether to be pleased.

A minnow trying to swallow a whale - Interesting - Woodford obviouly supports - I suspect CAW1 you may well be prudent - A pofit is a pofit as they say in Golders Green and domestic lending margins may well be subject to future regulatory restictions (imo) .

Decided to ditch most of mine at the 60p on offer until I have time to have a proper look at it. Possibly a mistake but a profit's a profit and I can always re-enter if things look better than expected on closer inspection.

A merger of two highly leveraged lenders. A marriage made in heaven!

Agree CWA1. It's not exactly clear who is taking over whom. 87.8% of the enlarged company will be PF, and that's before Home Credit is sold off. However we can presume that at least in part the two businesses compete. Getting rid of competition is supposedly good for margins. There should be scope for cost savings in a single bigger company. It looks as if the major shareholders like the way NSF is being run and want them to take over the PF businesses and do a better job than their current management. Assuming they can then the shares should do well in time.

Not one to hold when the economy turns. A very poor business in my view.

John van Kuffeler, Group Chief Executive, said

"Our three business divisions are continuing to deliver as planned with strong loan book growth and tight controls on impairment. The investments made over the past 18-months are starting to bear fruit and we are well-placed to continue to deliver substantial earnings and dividend growth.

"The third quarter has started well, underpinning our confidence in the full year outlook and we are pleased to declare a 20% increase in the half year dividend to 0.6p per share.

"As we look further ahead, both our performance to-date and strong market position means that the opportunity before us is now even greater than we first thought. We are finalising our plans for 2019 and beyond and will provide a full update to the market at our annual investor day in November 2018."

This company will probably go bust in the next recession in my view. Too much debt taken on late cycle for expensive acquisitions.

Morning. This doesn't seem a particularly happy camper these days. Naturally I decided to pick up a tiny parcel at about 55p. Good fortune all.

Just to mention that NSF will be exhibiting and presenting at our MelloSouth event in Hever,Kent on 14th June and all shareholders and potential investors are welcome to attend

NSF have never presented at our Mello events before and we are very pleased to welcome Peter Reynolds their IR director. This is an ideal opportunity to meet management and learn more about the company and their strategy.

Do come and join us at this quality event and there will be at least 25 other companies to meet plus some fabulous keynote speakers and a large number of fund managers presenting and on panel sessions.
