05/5/2006 12:22 | Quite right CR - and you didn't mention the share buy back at 146.5p either... The spread is fantastic - buyers will never get a better chance than this with this stock. | rivaldo
05/5/2006 12:09 | Wow, don't remember the spread being that small. Bet the offer moves to 163 any minute now... | iandippie
05/5/2006 12:06 | The lion is stirring - results next month - lets see if this starts to make new highs too soon. Every engineering company I seem to look at are doing well and posting good result. UK Manufacturing data very strong lately. Here's a reliable company that has been growing earnings at 100% pa and it's sat there, not moving, PE about 8, directors buying, no debt and it has been going nowhere - that can't remain like that imo. 05/5/2006 11:33 | Morning all, There was an interesting bit of news today which may comfort people concerned about MSI's margins with the dramatic increase in commodity prices. An old favourite of mine, the electrical contractor T Clarke, said this in it's agm statement today: " We have had a good first quarter in order intake and we are experiencing a slow improvement in margin recovery. We have the capacity in terms of resources and management to meet the increasing demand for our services, which is likely to benefit long-term margin improvement. " We are alert to the sharp escalation in commodity prices, in particular steel and copper and of the perceived shortage of skilled labour. We are confident that the steps we have already taken will mitigate this risk." So CTO are managing just fine and, if anything, are using high commodity prices as a nice excuse to boost their margins. IMO MSI are doing the same. Oh - and didn't MSI increase their stocks of raw materials just before the price of copper doubled! Now MSI they've got an excuse to increase their output prices while their input prices stay low - nice :) In my opinion both T Clarke and MSI are superbly run similar companies and I very much like them both. However, these days there is one key difference - MSI are on a PE of ~ 8 and CTO are on a PE ~ 15!! | mr. t
04/5/2006 21:09 | Wake me up when we have further news. Not complaining though. | rogerbridge
03/5/2006 12:28 | Ooops, sorry, CR - December, not today. I'm dozing off here. :-) | diogenesj
03/5/2006 12:23 | Where did you see that Diogenes? Last news I can see is a Dec buy back CR | cockneyrebel
03/5/2006 11:59 | Actually there is a bit of news today. MSI have bought in 100k of their own shares for cancellation. | diogenesj
02/5/2006 16:12 | Lets hope your right then, and hope for "incredibly good results"! Stormy | onlyonestorm
02/5/2006 15:51 | Well, you're probably (no - certainly) in the wrong share if you are looking for "newsflow". Due to the fact that MSI never comment on trading outside the results periods, they do not therefore have to make comments even if they are forseeing incredibly good or incredibly bad results! They didn't even comment on the large MOD contract due to this being spread over a number of years, despite this being the sort of thing other companies would be screaming about to try and get a footnote in a newspaper column somewhere! I like them that way :-) Makes for even bigger adjustment later... | xdavid
02/5/2006 13:53 | Oh how I wish it would move up, seems to be stuck at present, not even any newsflow, getting very frustrated!! Stormy | onlyonestorm
02/5/2006 13:49 | couple of large trades today - the 8K is definitely a buy. CR | cockneyrebel
01/5/2006 13:27 | Not only Fire Directors, but naval gun ones too. Whoopppeee! | cambium
30/4/2006 11:31 | "Fire Directors" ah? I can think of a few companies that could do with one of those :-) CR | cockneyrebel
30/4/2006 08:10 | I got a news alert for Janes' Defence Weekly's web site which features MSI Defence Systems - I hadn't realised the full extent of their product range. It's pretty impressive: "Combined sensor target tracking systems, shipborne Combined weapon fire control systems, naval ship Communications systems, naval, underwater Compression chambers, naval static Decompression chambers, land-based Decompression chambers, shipborne Display systems and equipment Diving equipment Diving systems and equipment Electro-optical target location and tracking systems and equipment Electro-optical target location and tracking systems, shipborne Electro-optical weapon guidance systems Fire control equipment, naval gun Fire control equipment, naval missile Fire control equipment, naval weapon Fire control systems, combined weapon, naval Fire directors, optronic, combined weapon, naval Fire directors, optronic, naval gun Gun fire control systems, naval Gun mount equipment, naval Gun mounts, naval Guns, naval, 20 mm and over Guns, naval, automatic, multi-role Maintenance, repair, overhaul services Missile fire control systems, naval Navigation equipment, submarine Navigation systems, shipborne Navigation systems, submarine Optical target tracking systems and equipment Optical target tracking systems, shipborne Packing cases and containers Plotting tables, naval Protective transport cases, containers and equipment Recompression chambers, land-based Recompression chambers, shipborne Rescue equipment Shelter accessories Shelters, airportable Shelters Spare parts supply services Submarine masts Target location and tracking Training services Transport cases and containers Weapon fire control systems, naval shipborne Weapon mounts, naval Weapon systems, naval, anti-aircraft gun Weapon systems, naval, anti-missile, gun-based Weapon systems, naval, surface target Weapon systems, naval" | rivaldo
29/4/2006 13:30 | ATUK looks to much jam tomorrow for me - losing 8p a share. Supposed to make a profit in H2 - I'll wait and see and if they are I might be tempted. Can't see it moving much until investors get more detail imo. Also has a silly name. I try to avoid silly names cos they are usually run by silly people - remember medi@invest? Seen so many silly names fail to perform. QQ (Qinetiq) how's that for a silly name - try pronouncing it then looking for that in the Phone book! I'll pass on ATUK for a while thanks CR | cockneyrebel
28/4/2006 15:55 | ISD sorry ! :-) CR | cockneyrebel
28/4/2006 15:54 | Dont you mean ISD not IDS | cambium
28/4/2006 15:36 | Me too. I've noticed the chart too - wake up call imminent imo CR | cockneyrebel
28/4/2006 15:34 | Nice one with YSP CR, I looked at that and for whatever reason it didn't grab me - c'est la vie! There's a distinct similarity in the MSI chart between early 2005 and early 2006 - and look what happened after the results came out in June...not long to go now. With recent share buybacks, plus director buying previously, I'm quietly confident :o)) | rivaldo
28/4/2006 11:32 | yep, out of MTT, had my fun there thanks :-) About to have my fun here now. I love these quiet threads - look at IDS and YSP - hardly a buggar interested - I'm the one there on my own nearly - and making the money! lololol! They'll all be in them in a couple of months, all excited, singing like canaries about how great these companies are doing! Same here - watch the crowds of 'experts' buying MSI after it has broken out and £2+ all saying how cheap they are! CR | cockneyrebel
26/4/2006 08:25 | Excuse the OT... CR, I suspect you are out of MTT at the mo, but results in today - 25.2p beating estimates by 20%. Check out your old thread for more. | xdavid |
