It's a business as usual kind of contract, namely ongoing support and maintenance to the Royal Navy fleet so an extension rather than anything new. Even still it's very welcome news and retains £10m pa of stable revenues for the next 5yrs alongside the £8m pa from the US Navy. Considering a good year for defence has been £30m pa for both capital projects AND support and maintenance this is a real step change.

Norbert Colon,
Thanks for that, I saw it early enough to bring forward an intended further top up in MSI, isnt it a shame that every BB cant be the same, one needle in a Haystack full of absolute cranks and ne'er do wells.

Excellent work NC.

This part is really interesting;

"The International Guns, Missiles and Rockets Project Team, part of the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) intends to award a 5-year contract to MSI Defence Systems Ltd (MSI-DSL) for Contracting for Availability (CfA) services for the 30mm Gun System across the Naval fleet from June 2024.

It is considered that the award of the contract without prior publication of a contract notice in the UK notification service is lawful under Regulation 16 (1) (a)(ii) of the Defence and Security Public Contracts Regulations 2011 on the grounds of the following technical reasons.

i. MSI-DSL are the OEM and Design Authority for the in-service 30mm Gunnery Systems and;

ii. have proven technical proficiency to resolve the growing obsolescence issues and;

iii. have a number of capability improvement options at a high level of technical readiness which could be embodied immediately and;

iv. as a result are the only supplier who could concurrently and efficiently manage both the ongoing in-service support and critical obsolescence resolution at a high TRL to prevent operational defects and degraded operational capability to the Fleet."

Replacement RNS. I had thought it must be the wrong way round as share options were issued which would have pushed other people's % down, not up !

Shanklin,

MSI actually ousted the incumbent BA. to take the MK38 Mod 4 contract with the US Navy. The performance of their 30mm cannon mount is world class if not world leading. Winning the US Navy competition should help overseas Naval sales in time. They've certainly already picked up some US foreign military aid sales.

On the land based side they have some excellent partners. MARSS provide a world class CUAS control system, SAAB and APS likewise with radar. With the anti-drone capabilities about to be field tested in Ukraine it will be interesting to see if any feedback emerges. I'm certainly seeing multiple clips of drones causing extensive damage on both sides so counter drone systems are certainly in demand.

Perhaps worth considering the profile of the board with respect to age and length of service. I guess there will be a time and place for an approach (not just yet!) and those in the sector will be aware.

Have just read the last 200+ posts.

Obviously the defence division is key for MSI and there are several people posting here with considerable expertise of the company.

Given that MSI is a miniscule company when compared with competitors such as BA., do you see the defence success as sustainable or something which larger peers will quickly emulate. Presumably MSI are more entreprenarial and fleet of foot which will help against very bureaucratic competitors.... ....albeit they may just try to buy the defence divsion.

MSI seem to be in a real sweet spot with what they are doing defence wise so what might that mean in EPS terms 3 to 5 years out?

Great post Norbert and puts into real terms the value of orders received in the last 10 months - simply superb. Re Naval contracts I would like to think the maintenance contract to 30/6/28 indicates that there will be a steady flow of future orders.

With a range of 2km, to construct an overlapping defensive wall for the major cities would take hundreds of units. Or, if they are intended to be deployed just behind the front line even more.
