24/8/2018 15:28 | Agreed.. Well said. Nonetheless, the land required has now been seized according to Daily Mail., And this has absolutely nothing to do with White Farmers - the land access needed for mining and wider economic investments. | bengal1
24/8/2018 14:51 | A fair price and ANC giving up on changing the constitution would be the best outcome. There's no other way forward that will not be damaging, especially in the long term -- these issues have a habit of bubbling up (and over) at some point. | casual47
24/8/2018 14:25 | Article in daily mail saying owners of land we require have had enough and want to sell at fair price | 2bozmo
24/8/2018 12:40 | Would liken it to a compulsory purchase order in U.K. so project like HS2 can go ahead and last landowner doesn't want to sell. | 2bozmo
24/8/2018 12:04 | The South African expropriation act wouldn't be too dissimilar from a UK government deciding landlords like the duke of Westminster whose inherited wealth goes back to the Norman conquest should have their land taken away so it can be used to build houses for the poor all in the name of dealing with the national housing crisis. This would get huge popular support but it would go against everything the UK has come to stand for. It's effectively a communist coup against the bourgeoisie. | casual47
21/8/2018 22:35 | The ANC have proven they are willing to change the constitution to satisfy their political aims. What worth is their word? A good few of them are rather keen on nationalizing mines also - it's a slippery slope. The Chinese should be no problem. They run roughshod over their citizens' rights every day. The economy of South Africa is still very much in a perilous state. The ANC after all this time have yet to demonstrate they are capable of good governance and stewardship of the economy, as far as I can see. | casual47
21/8/2018 22:28 | ANC tonight said would secure property rights. Hope that's the case. SA does need to remain investable. Chinese are after all investing $10bn in Musina-Makhado SEZ | 2bozmo
21/8/2018 22:25 | Obviously not you!! | bengal1
21/8/2018 22:24 | Legalised theft still theft. Security of property is a cornerstone of investment. Again, who would want to invest in South Africa now? | casual47
21/8/2018 22:22 | Well said, but fair compensation will be paid... media spin me thinks! The land owners cannot simply name their price, hence the hard-ball. | bengal1
21/8/2018 22:21 | Fair value is what someone is prepared to pay. Nobody will buy farms if fear government will expropriate land without compensation. | 2bozmo
21/8/2018 22:20 | Was talking to a SA friend today about Zim and he thought not happen, as both blacks and white aware of what happened there and as such would avoid that route. Plus he suggested Ramaphosa too smart to let that happen.A lot been made in the press, seems like AfriForum been mischief making given their anti ANC land expropriation policies, and whether they made the 'farm list' up themselves to cause trouble. Akkerland Boerdery probably happy to participate to ratchet up interest in their farms. We can acquire farms through NOMR that gives us access. | 2bozmo
21/8/2018 22:18 | Fair value is not zero. | bengal1
21/8/2018 22:07 | I think that is media spin. Fair compensation has certainly been centre stage with Coal of Africa. I ask how many years has this been going on for. Sounds more like compulsory purchase orders are the only way to solve the impasse, with media spinning the apartheid angle as opposed to the real economic benefit with billion dollar pre- packed investments ready to go, but held back by land access, entirely different to Zimbabwe. | bengal1
21/8/2018 22:06 | Has Zimbabwe all over it. | casual47
21/8/2018 22:03 | Fair value I mean | 2bozmo
21/8/2018 21:58 | Farm value of farms in SA is now zero. | 2bozmo
21/8/2018 21:56 | Doesn't sound like fair compensation to me. The background to this is of course political and racial so in no way comparable to HS2. What is going on in South Africa is plain incitement to hatred against the white population. The steep increase in murders of and violent crimes against white farmers illustrate it abundantly. Not to mention high profile ANC members singing about "kill the white farmer". Can't see all of this helping with the recovery of the economy. | casual47
21/8/2018 21:53 | These 2 farms are top of list as the coking coal is needed for the Chinese industrial deal. These land owners are entitled to fair compensation. And I would entirely agree that courts should rule on this. | bengal1
21/8/2018 21:48 | Casual 47...how do you think HS2, M1, M4 etc acquired the land they needed...perhaps compulsory purchase orders by SoS. | bengal1
21/8/2018 21:41 | I disagree. The economic value of employment, industrial growth and GDP far exceeds that of a old school hunting ground for the wealthy to shoot big game. I am surprised it has taken so long to apply the exapropriation constitutional laws, and this has severely hampered SA economy. This is now being resolved... at last. My understanding is that fair compensation has been offered. Investment will now prevail. | bengal1
21/8/2018 21:40 | The first two farms being mentioned are Salaita and Lukin, notably the ones we require to commence mining. | 2bozmo
21/8/2018 21:29 | ZA seizing land from white farmers an awful situation. Expropriating land without due compensation is the beginning of the end of the norms, values and rule of law as known here in the West. South Africa appears to be further descending into a corrupt & rogue state. Who would want to invest in a place like that? | casual47
21/8/2018 21:18 | Big news coming. Land expropriated. | bengal1
21/8/2018 14:03 | For the whole month so far only a total of 50k shares have been traded. Most days there are no trades. So still risky for newcomers as offloading shares while this illiquid can be costly. | casual47 |
