30/10/2018 09:41 | So many issues/challenges have now been sorted by DB... I suspect a land offer has been made and there is now a strategy in place ie take the offer now or company can,and will wait, for execution of mining right by deploying mitigation strategy, and land owner gets much lesser state compensation. | bengal1
30/10/2018 09:35 | Have there been many acquisitions of South African miners recently? | casual47

30/10/2018 09:33 | Add the South Africa factor + the potted history of always "we just need that one other thing there over on the horizon and then for sure it will be BOOM!" and you can see why it is undervalued. | casual47
30/10/2018 09:25 | Well undervalued if we take into account value of deposits and existing mines. | mjcferguson

02/10/2018 10:52 | Unfortunately it's in limbo for the short to medium term as the land access issues drag on at Makhado, with no resolution in site. Revenues from Uitkomst aren't quite enough to ensure MCM is self-sufficient (David Brown confirmed this in the interview after results), however remaining $8.1 million to be paid over 10 quarters from Mooiplats will assist and MCM has cash balance of $11m. Makhado has the 3rd Party appeal on the Enivronment Authorisation Amendment - not sure how long that will drag on. But even without this it appears there are 3 ways forward to resolve land issue: 1)Commercial Settlement with land owners (doesn't appear likely). 2)New plan being worked by MCM and should have update by March 2019, to allow commencement of limited works without land access. However not sure how this is possible as Plant is supposed to be built on the land in dispute and it's just a stop gap. David Brown didn't allude to any other information. 3) Land expropriation through the Mining Legislation or whichever law prevails (can't remember off top of my head). But following this process could take up to Q4 2019/ Q1 2020. | redtrend

03/9/2018 14:21 | President Cyril Ramaphosa's state visit in China this week has yielded promising results, following the signing of several cooperation agreements between the two countries on Sunday in Beijing - including a $1.1bn trade investment deal with the Bank of China. The Bank of China intended to work with South Africa's department of trade and industry (DTI) in a special economic zones programme that would become "an engine for rapid investment attraction into South Africa". Another $90m would go into the production of hard coking coal and thermal coal, through an open cast mining project in Makhado in Limpopo in a deal between Baobab Mining and the Exploration and China Railway International Group around the Soutpansberg coalfields area. With the estimated resource at 344.8 million tonnes over a 46-year lifespan, the Makhado project would be "the only producer of hard coking coal in South Africa, which is a vital input into the steel-making industry | bengal1

25/8/2018 10:29 | No. You miss the point completely. This is not about the mining rights or indeed the claims of the tribe. If this was just about the legal process of expropriation in a normal western democracy there wouldn't be an issue as the legal process would just run its course, with the dice falling as they may but doing so fairly and justly with all the parties' rights fully protected by the state. This is about the government creating a climate of property rights insecurity effectively making all these properties now worthless so depriving the farmers (and Akkerland specifically) of a fair way out of this process while also seeking to change the constitution to legally steal their property. How could Akkerland now possibly go through this process and receive fair and just treatment in law when the government is agitating against landowners by burning down property rights and putting the weight of the state on the scales to completely skew the value of property? | casual47
25/8/2018 08:14 | Yep, we know that... but the false media spin suits a broader agenda presenting it as something it isn't. | bengal1
25/8/2018 06:10 | But the expropriation of Akkerland Boerdery is to do with mining rights and not taking a farm from white folk to give to blacks as has been portrayed in media. | 2bozmo
24/8/2018 16:45 | This has been portrayed as black against whites over land. It's not. Fake news. Nor is that land worth 200m.daily mail readers must be in a quandary. Nasty hunters v nasty coal. | 2bozmo |
