The Cosmen family has a stake in coach, bus and train operator Mobico (previously National Express Group) although Mobico told Railway Gazette International it is not involved in the Evolyn project.

NX selected these Van Hool Altano's due to operating experience at their other coach subsidiaries / they have been looking for higher capacity coaches to replace the 10 x double decker Caetano Boa Vista's for sometime. These provide sufficient luggage & increased passenger capacity, the double deckers don't have the luggage space.

As for the 300 electric double deckers, NX are not investing the £150 million quoted, they're leased & will be owned by Zenobe. To date only 170 of that amount have actually been ordered & the final 30+ of the initial batch of 80 are still being delivered, however, they've all being sat in storage months due to waiting for charging infrastructure to be installed at the depots. I understand the latest date for them to start entering service is May.

I’ve been researching a bit on our buyers.

European Express Enterprises Limited owns 19.106221%

NORTHERN EXPRESS ENTERPRISES LIMITED 3.001336

Azvalor Asset Management SGIIC SA 3.007000

All bought around the same time, Azvalor Spanish Equity and has cash. The other two private owned investment funds of the Cosmen family. Equals 25% ownership. Cosmens failed to block a rights issue in 2009 after a failed takeover (see below press articles), because they only owned 18.75%.

At 25% they CAN block any special articles such as rights issue. They can also propose removing/changing board members. I think the latter is more likely.

Is their Northern Express, (Northern Europe ie UK and Northern America, Express meaning National Express). And European Enterprises = ALSA.)

Will they buy us, decant and sell off Northern to First Group or Stagecoach and then keep Europe ie ALSA for themselves, a bigger more profitable company than they sold with ambitions to connect to the channel tunnel?

Yes Winston you are right thanks for correcting me - I thought about the Van Hool troubles and I assume National Express got a "good deal" with the so called uncertain future of the Belgian company

but here come the electric buses this is a Jan 2023 post and it shows where a cool 250 million is going - these elec buses "were" due for delivery in December 2024

NX have one Yutong electric coach which is on 4 weeks trial on the London - Stansted Airport corridor from Pelican Bus & Coach:

Electric Coaches cannot currently work long distance routes for NX due to their limited range.

Indeed .... for tomorrow when CrossCountry drivers are on strike then Birmingham to Leeds NX coach tickets are going for about triple 'normal' price. So even with increased costs for hiring third party vehicles /drivers then profit margins should be ''interesting'

Totally by chance the strike co-incides with the Grand National - By the way National Express recently took delivery of some electric long distance buses made in Belgium . The makers of them are in financial trouble and possible "closure" - due to disagreement between the "owning" family members !!!

They obviously need to get as many (leased? & repaired by owner ) electric coaches asap in service for obvious reasons

FWIW price to sales is 0.1x and book price is c. 200p.
The share price is extremely low but the board's shenanigans have not helped.
2024 performance hopefully far better than 2023?
