Agreed 1W.

I might give one of them a buzz later in week.

Will advise by email.

Not seen any mention of them.

Could they have something in the pipeline ?
and
Would Hugh Mc want a final crack at taking an early stage prospect to successful producer - bearing in mind the number of years it might take.

Would be interesting to know if they have anything lined up.

I wonder what Hugh Mc and Kieran H are doing now?

If they are working who are they working for?

Where are they working etc etc.

Serpico, very well put, that makes sense, thx. I have a very low value portfolio, so not much diversification. I do hold a little AR. too, but have a technical (-and emotional!) sell @ 40p limit on the entire holding (-all £500!) as i bought their AR. options for Vietnam a while back, and i am a bit miffed that i did given nothing ever happened to the money and the spin-off never materialised... However, role on $2K AU...

DJY - suspect if a lot of people are like myself they have a set proportion of their portfolio assigned to these high risk/high reward stocks.

Goldfields in an ISA is a very different proposition to holding GEX direct. Reason being that where Glencars assets made up 100% of GEX (at a small market capitalisation) they only make up a small proportion of Goldfields (at a huge market captialisation). Clearly the relative upside reward from the Mali exploits is significantly reduced - along with the risks involved.

So to some it would be strange to put the money into Goldfields over say a VGM or AR. - regardless of relative performance over the current period.

By the way, I think you have a sound investment.

Upon reading the last few comments, was I the only one to invest my GEX buyout proceeds into Goldfields within this year's ISA for the realisation of future GEX assets?

Good to hear from you too SS.

1W - Bit of a mixed bag for me since GEX. O&G plays have done well (particularly GPX and AEX), Pharma doing alright (AZN), golds been mixed (AR. going well but HMB been poor as usual) but several of my miners continue to frustrate (I'm looking at you TMC although GFM looks on the road to recover).

I've not found a company to replace the interest I had in GEX. Still appraising whether long term investment in small companies is the way to go or whether I prefer using the blue chips for that and just move in and out of the speculation which quite often seems the main driving force behind AIM share prices...

Also, still not sure whether I know if the wider economy is on the mend or just benefiting from transient support.

Doing very well elsewhere serp, GKP and VGM have been very good for me in particular with both looking to have much more to come. Still interested in how the sankarani area develops though and will follow the GF quarterlies. Think western Mali will become very major in gold production terms so on the lookout for other juniors there with good potential. Hope you're doing well elsewhere also.
Cheers

GF quarterly report to end Dec'09:--

At the Yanfolila Project (including the Komana and Sankarani
Projects) in southern Mali, Gold Fields completed the purchase of
all of the outstanding shares of Glencar Mining during the
December quarter and now controls a large position (~191,000
hectares) in the Yanfolila Belt. Field activities resumed in October
2009 with an aggressive resource delineation drilling programme
at the Komana East and West deposit areas. Other exploration
activities in the belt include initial drilling programmes at the
Bokoro targets on the Sankarani licenses and target definition
surveys on several prospect areas within the Solona license.

GF quarterly to Sept 09:--

In July 2009, Gold Fields made an offer to purchase all the
outstanding shares of Glencar Mining Plc ("Glencar") (for a total
consideration of approximately GBP28 million). Gold Fields has
taken control of the Glencar Board and Glencar was delisted from
the Irish and AIM Stock Exchanges on 5 October 2009. The offer
was subject to 80 per cent of the Glencar shareholders
unconditionally accepting the offer, which was achieved. Gold
Fields has invoked the squeeze-out provisions in terms of Section
204 of the Irish Companies Act and notification in terms of Section
204 was posted to the remaining Glencar shareholders on 9
October 2009. With the Glencar purchase, Gold Fields has
consolidated a large position in the Yanfolila Belt which includes
100 per cent owned tenements and the Glencar Projects including
Komana (1.25 million ounces resource reported by Glencar),
Sankarani and Solona. Field activities were suspended during
September quarter due to lack of access through the rainy season
as well as the corporate activities related to the Glencar purchase.
Preparations are underway to commence an aggressive field
programme from October 2009, which will range from resource
delineation drilling at the Komana deposits to initial drilling and
target definition work on the other tenements.

I would also like to extend my thanks to all those that contributed to this board. In my opinion it was one of the best on ADVFN - I hope my GEX proceeds find their way to companies that others here have an interest in so we can resume the high quality posts that have defined this board.

Stenick ---

You might look at XTR for black gold -- building very solid business with good resources and production starting in October, with good management.

For the yellow stuff, VGM looks a cracker with close to 6m oz of reserves/resources and ramping up production now after having tough times re-opening the mine and getting new equipment.

Stenners - I think KMR is as close to one in the mining sector as one is likely to get, usual caveats apply - Im in for the slow burn unless of course the Chinese or someone wanting an excellent Titanium dioxide source decidwes to get acquisitive. The mining sector is heating up with mergers/acquisitions etc.

Ur in RGT I think so its only a matter of GREAT patience - Im in for the turnaround and its likely to be explosive once its the real thing.

I like the look of MOS and its business positioning and timing but Im not in yet as I need to raise funds. Similarly with Zetar.

All the above have a degree of 'speculative' about them but I think RYA and CRH are very decent investments with the potential to provide good upside.
