Have never tried anchovies with beef. Use them regularly with lamb.

The Worcestershire sauce has an umami effect with beef. But will try anchovies. I always have some in the cupboard.

Update. Cottage Pie tonight. Made the filling a couple of weeks ago and have just defrosted it. Kept a spoonful and added a couple of anchovies to the rest. Dissolved nicely. Will let you know the difference.

I do a version of a beef casserole which includes a few anchovies. Their taste is not strong enough to be discernible in the end product but they are very rich in umami and that acts as a multiplier of the savoury flavours that come from the beef and other ingredients. Some mushrooms do a similar thing, so a a beef and mushroom casserole/stew/daube with a judicious admixture of anchovies comes out with its savoury dimension turbo-charged.

And rosemary cobbler/dumplings on top of course.

Everything companies do is interesting. You don’t have to be looking at a company with a view to investing. I wouldn’t think of investing in tobacco companies but I am interested in their strategies. When companies become quoted there is much more information about them.

As for Aston Martin, great cars, but I don’t invest in car companies. Suppliers to them yes.

British businesses will not be blocked from bidding for most foreign government contracts under a "no deal" Brexit.

The World Trade Organization has agreed the UK can join its Government Procurement Agreement as a non-EU member, protecting access to a market worth as much as £1.3 trillion.

Without the deal companies risked losing their ability to bid for work across the globe.

It also means the British Government will still receive bids from foreign companies, which can compete for the £67bn of contracts put out to tender in the UK each year.

All I said when the IPO was announced was that it looked “interesting.” I didn’t invest and was never going to. But I do think Aston Martins are fantastic cars.

Possibly it needs to be british with a lower-case b.

I have my own version of beef stew, based more on a daube, with a few chilli flakes, fennel seeds and dried orange peel. Fabulous with herb dumplings. Sourdough bread to mop up the juices. A family favourite.

INCREASED CONFIRMED ORDER FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE EQUIPMENT

EDRIVE SYSTEMS DELIVERED TO DATE = 725,000

GKN reveals EV with two-speed transmission

GKN Automotive has unveiled a battery electric vehicle (BEV) with a two-speed transmission and torque vectoring on the front axle.

Based on a standard Jeep Renegade, the ‘GTD19’ demonstrator vehicle, which is described as a world first, is undergoing extensive testing at GKN’s annual winter testing programme in Arjeplog, Sweden.

The GTD19 is equipped with an optimised two-speed ‘seamless shift’ eTransmission and smart shifting strategy, which has the potential to extend vehicle range as well as provide greater torque, acceleration and a higher top speed.

Efficiency is further enhanced, says GKN, by the GTD19’s eAxle’s coaxial format, while exceptional stability and dynamic performance is possible thanks to the torque vectoring capability of GKN’s eTwinster system.

Hannes Prenn, chief operating officer of GKN ePowertrain, said: “This new technology demonstrator showcases how we are evolving and improving integrated eDrive technologies to help OEMs further improve efficiency, safety and driving dynamics.

“Within the last year, we have seen a 40% increase in the value of our eDrive order book, rising from £2 billion at the end of 2017 to confirmed business now worth £3 billion.

“Our dedicated focus on production and development of electrified drivelines will enable us to support the rapid acceleration in demand for BEVs equipped with all-wheel drive systems in the coming years.”

The GTD19 vehicle undergoing testing in Arjeplog integrates GKN’s two-speed ‘seamless shift’ gearbox with two speeds and torque vectoring.

The technology is related to the two-speed technology in last year’s ‘GTD18’ Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 test vehicle, which demonstrated the benefits of an eTwinster rear axle e-motor, two-speed eTransmission and torque vectoring by twin clutches; paired with a mechanical Twinster on the front axle.

The set-up in GTD19 provides pure electric power with two-speeds. The electric two-speed gearbox is configured to ensure the shifts are seamless, with minimal losses in power and torque and the potential for faster acceleration, improved efficiency and a higher top speed.

GKN’s Twinster torque vectoring technology delivers specific advantages for vehicle stability, agility and safety. Aiding modulation of the high initial torque of the electric motor, Twinster governs acceleration making it swift and smooth, while also providing greater lateral control and optimised front-wheel driving dynamics for both safety and driver satisfaction, says GKN.

The advanced eDrive system in the GTD19 replaces the Jeep Renegade’s internal combustion engine with a 120kW GKN e-motor, delivering maximum torque of 3,500Nm and vectoring of up to 2,000Nm to either of the front wheels when required.

Front-wheel drive applications of torque vectoring provide more noticeable benefits than rear- or all-wheel drive configurations, due to the relative ease of breaking traction in a front-wheel drive car.

Not only can the Twinster system keep the front wheels in check during acceleration, it can correct an understeer yaw moment experienced by a driver entering a corner at speed. The system prioritises torque delivery to the outer wheel helping to correct the natural understeer characteristic typically associated with a front drive vehicle.

GKN says that the eTwinster two-speed coaxial system can be easily integrated into existing vehicle platforms. It is readily adaptable for use in front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive applications extending from entry-level electric city cars to plug-in hybrid luxury SUVs and fully electric all-wheel drive hypercars.

For the GTD19, all the drivetrain technology was integrated with ease into the existing vehicle platform without major modification, including both a GKN-derived electric motor and GKN-developed inverter controls, supplementing the company’s advanced eAxle, it said.

All software is programmed by GKN to enable seamless shifting of the two-speed transmission and torque control on the front axle, with minimal power and torque loss during changes.

GKN has already supplied complete eDrive systems to some of the most influential and successful plug-in hybrid programmes for OEMs including BMW, Mitsubishi, Porsche and Volvo.

GKN AEROSPACE OBTAINS EASA STCS FOR ADS-B OUT MODIFICATION FOR THE BOEING 747 & 757

EASA has issued Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) to GKN Fokker Services for ADS-B Out modification for the Boeing 747-400 and 757-200 & 757-300 aircraft, including freighter versions

Each STC can be used to install all compliant transponder types in combination with every compliant GPS source offering a unique and valuable solution to operators with mixed configurations in their fleet

Multiple GKN Fokker Services customers have already ordered the Boeing 747 and 757 ADS-B Out modification enabling them to be prepared for both the FAA and EASA mandates in 2020. FAA validation of both EASA STCs will follow later this quarter.

ADS-B Out (Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast) is a common system on-board many aircraft that automatically broadcasts relevant data from the aircraft towards air traffic management organizations. ADS-B Out data includes the identity of the aircraft, the GPS location, and direction of flight. A new, so-called Version 2 (DO260B), ADS-B Out system will become mandatory in 2020 in Europe, USA, UAE and various other countries. The new ADS-B Out mandate involves an upgrade or replacement of the ATC Transponder and the GPS receiver. This will enable optimization of the airspace and minimize the use of ground radar stations. In the next decade, most of the airspace throughout the globe will be using ADS-B as the primary means of surveillance, replacing radar. This will include the oceanic environment (Satellite ADS-B).

After obtaining EASA and FAA STCs for the Bombardier Q400, the Airbus A320 Family and the 737 Next Gen, GKN Fokker Services is expanding its ADS-B Out program to other aircraft types. These include the Boeing 737 and 767. GKN Fokker Services is also applying for STCs from other airworthiness authorities.

Erik Lous, Product Manager ADS-B Out at GKN Fokker Services said: “We are extremely happy with our new EASA STCs for our competitive and innovative ADS-B Out solution for both the Boeing 747 and 757 aircraft. The STCs are truly differentiating, since these encompasses all compliant transponders and GPS sources. Our STCs will also allow our customers to modify their aircraft very cost-effectively and with a minimum of downtime, typically during just one or two overnight checks. Furthermore, with our STCs, the customer has the option to update or replace existing transponders with transponders from different vendors.”

I agree, beetle juice.
I hope you understand that since you've agreed with me, getting will now think we are the same person.

getting sadly suffers from the rare 'Fregoli Delusion', which I have mentioned in earlier posts. His stooge, 'the human crutch', 'the sage', named here as brexit, suffers 'Fregoli Delusion by Proxy', even more rare.
The cause is little understood but is found chiefly among chronic boasters.

It is a sad fact, but great entertainment.

B+, there are a number of things here. Firstly, they're not 'paying themselves' - the company's shareholders approved the package. Secondly, as you say, they have to really perform to get their bonuses. They've picked up big bonuses before but they'll have to pull off a big turnaround again (and big rise in SP) to get them going forward. This is the point that seems lost on the two Ms who seem to link their past bonuses to the current share price Either they're a bit slow or they're just pretending not to understand. Thirdly, the amount they could potentially get is a small fraction of the amount of market capitalisation they have to add to get it. So, no, doesn't bother me in the slightest. But I can certainly see how it could bother people who are a bit slow on the uptake.
