17/1/2019 22:17 | “So Jeremy Corbyn will meet with Hamas, Hezbollah and the IRA with no preconditions, but won’t meet the British Prime Minister without her agreeing to his precondition.” Not sure who said the above but it seems reasonably accurate. You can always count on Corbyn to make other politicians look like grown ups. | ![]() tournesol
17/1/2019 21:32 | Interesting that Corbyn happily engaged with Hamas and Hezbollah without ANY pre-conditions...but he won't do the same with Mrs May. | ![]() gettingrichslow
17/1/2019 21:01 | Yes,I was thinking much the same. She's only 116 shy of winning the day and given the sheep like nature of most MPs,if Collie Teresa(she's nothing but dogged!)has a good day in the field, she might just successfully coral the bleating mutton heads. There's one thing that I take solace from....Ken Clarke thinks her deal is broadly acceptable. As for the Commons in general, frankly I don't think most of them fully understand the technicalities of her plan anymore than the rest of us.Why should they, you get the MPs you vote for.I don't like May's bullying, blackmail tactics but since the Labour Party won't lend a hand in the national interest and "engage",where we are,is where we are. | ![]() steeplejack

17/1/2019 20:38 | Some moronic readers here, like the '2 flowerpot men & little weed', by which the astute Minerve has referred to them, will be baffled by a bit of simple maths shown here. Others will grasp it immediately. I will proceed. Much attention has been given to the majority, 230, against Mrs May's brexit proposal. 230, more than a 3rd of MPs, certainly sounds a lot. However, looking at it from another angle, 115+ members need to be persuaded to reverse their vote for the proposal to pass. In addition to this, the number 230 is no measure of the current distance between Mrs May's proposal and what these 115 would consider acceptable. The 115 could all be of very like minds and require a relatively modest change. The number 230 doesn't tell us this, although, of course, their broadcast opinions we hear may be seen as a measure of this distance. Their opinions are, as usual, exaggerated. I don't believe the 230 number is any indication of how dead her deal is. The perceived distance between her (EU willing of course) and the 115 is the indicator. This varies a little among the 115 but is narrowing. People expecting a catastrophe and market collapse, should think again. | meanwhile

17/1/2019 20:22 | Minny, what sort of beef do you use in your beefburgers? Did you see that Heston programme where he was trying to find the perfect combination of cuts to make the perfect burger? 17/1/2019 18:40 | I now have relatively small holding out of interest, however the ridiculous bonus payment to Directors was inappropriate ,not for the recipients but for holders. The GKN acquisition maybe a bone they choke on, I hope not but the timing before this complete mess that Teflon May has created could have been better. Let's see how they dress the accounts and treat the borrowings. | ![]() jackdaw4243

17/1/2019 17:12 | getting tells us :- "My nephew told me at Xmas that he considers the use of ROFLMAO and LOL 'childish'." Could brexit, 'the Cotswold sage', tell us whether or not his many nephews & nieces, those we've already been introduced to, have the same opinion. If so, then all these relatives can get together outside of this site and resolve this trivial matter, leaving this site for discussion of Melrose. On Melrose, I can report that, with the pound rising steadily against the dollar, the bonuses paid to the few Melrose Directors is now approaching $200 Million. They must have put in some hours for that. 7000 people working on the minimum wage for 50 hours per week would need to put in a full year of work to make that. | meanwhile
17/1/2019 13:22 | By-the-way chimp, you are the one that views me as a 'ex-captain of industry'. It is all your creation, not mine. Probably stems from your serious inferiority complex. | minerve
17/1/2019 13:20 | If you can't win the real arguments - because you are intellectually impotent - try character assassination. Poor things. There is no wonder my net-worth is multiples greater than the two Flower Pot Men; one a chimp on expenses (pretending to be a big cheese) and the other a lowly cook. | minerve |
