29/9/2017 17:08 | He's just outside the close period. For a year end announcement, in this case 30nov17, the close period begins 30sep17, 60 days or 2 months prior to the announcement. For interims, I believe it's 30 days. Clearly this was the last day prior to the y/e close period. | exel
29/9/2017 13:19 | hxxp://www.marstons. Year-end trading statement: 10th of October Full-year results: 30th of November Isn't there some kind of closed period, or does that apply only in the run up to the year and half-year results? | arf dysg
29/9/2017 11:36 | I see the CEO has been down the back of the settee again and found enough for another purchase ahead of the trading update. | spacecake
28/9/2017 23:46 | The Marstons English pale ale is good. And a quid in Asda... | zcaprd7
25/9/2017 09:27 | Signs of life continue, steady pulse, sitting up, just need to say a few simple sentences about what you do for a living, no need for a recent weather report. | spacecake

21/9/2017 13:55 | I often go into Tesco for the sole purpose of buying beer. They sell bottles of Hobgoblin at £1.25 each, which is an unreal price. | rcturner2
21/9/2017 13:24 | So, checking tesco online for Marstons beers finds various products and box sets of beer. Searching for Charles Wells finds one lonely bottle of banana beer. | spacecake
21/9/2017 13:11 | I've closed off my small trade, pays a couple of bills, small ones!. | essentialinvestor
21/9/2017 12:27 | On MAB I do wish these leaders would give up on the weather related drivel, we live on an island surrounded by water, yes it rains, without it we would not have any beer. "Whilst the weather in August and September has adversely affected the market" - says who ? - where is the evidence ? "we remain encouraged that our like-for-like sales performance continues to outperform the market" - well lets get into some back slapping shall we. I do hope MARS leaves the weather out of its update. | spacecake
21/9/2017 12:23 | Following comment from IC on MAB results... Looks like our decision to stay bearish on pub and restaurant group Mitchells & Butlers (MAB) was the right call back in August. A trading statement from the company this morning revealed only a 1.8 per cent improvement in like-for-like group revenues over the 52 weeks ending 16 September 2017, blaming the poor summer weather for a deterioration in underlying trading into the fourth quarter. Analysts at Peel Hunt have trimmed forecasts, both in terms of margins and profitability as costs also continue to rise. Sell. | speedsgh
21/9/2017 12:02 | From MAB's Pre-Close Trading Update this morning... "Following a strong sales performance in early summer the market has been more challenging in recent weeks, particularly given poor weather this year up against a sunny period last year which has specifically impacted drink sales. Encouragingly like-for-like sales growth continues to be ahead of the market..." Phil Urban, Chief Executive, commented: "Whilst the weather in August and September has adversely affected the market we remain encouraged that our like-for-like sales performance continues to outperform the market... We continue to work hard to mitigate the cost headwinds faced by the industry..." | speedsgh
21/9/2017 11:56 | exel, IMHO, In the short term I suspect the falling sales issues with GNK are specific to them and not sector specific, time will tell if others companies in the sector see anything like the down turn that GNK has seen. It might be a blip but the leadership can only be held responsible, not the workers or the weather or the market. | spacecake
21/9/2017 11:38 | Thanks Arf! Space, are you able to elaborate on your teaser about GNK leadership issues? | exel
20/9/2017 13:50 | Are Greene King's management inexperienced, environmentally friendly, or feeling sick? Have they come over all Tom Jones? That would make them green, green, green around the gills or The Green, Green Grass of Home. | arf dysg
20/9/2017 12:28 | I expect to see that Green Kings problems are not weather related but leadership related over the coming weeks. | spacecake

20/9/2017 08:40 | llef: but Sheoherd Neame in a richer part of the world - Kent and the south east so may not be comparable to Mars - | pugugly
20/9/2017 08:26 | not bad news re shepherd neame from the Ft today "Rival group Greene King earlier this month blamed a soggy British summer and weakening consumer confidence for a slump in sales, and Shepherd Neame is clearly not escaping the clouds. The start of the new financial year from July has been marked by “colder and unsettled weather” compared to last year, it said. Still, during those weeks, like-for-like sales are up by 1.5 per cent on the same period last year." | llef
19/9/2017 13:39 | Spacecake, ha ha! After the long slide in the share price we've seen, you could be right. | arf dysg
