23/11/2017 21:52 | None of us know the future, if someone said last April the Tory party would lose their overall majority, I would have suggested they lie down in a quiet darkened room, GNK update shortly, would not rule out a dividend cut. | essentialinvestor
23/11/2017 21:31 | Teresa isn't fat | hybrasil
23/11/2017 20:36 | Nice one ianood. A Tory government at the height of its unpopularity and arguing with itself and yet Labour can't get a decent lead in the polls. The fat lady has not yet sung. | lord gnome
23/11/2017 19:04 | So MARS has never seen a recession or Labour Govt before! | ianood
23/11/2017 16:51 | If this drops below £1 before next Thursday. I will be buying as I'm expecting a good result They are delivering to punch and Witherspoon and the lodges are getting more busy All in all they may be the exception to the rule | janekane
23/11/2017 15:52 | You have another approx 3 years before he takes power, it looks unstoppable now. MARS have more pressing short term challenges, cost inflation pressure coupled with a consumer under pressure. | essentialinvestor
23/11/2017 08:32 | will it hit the 2009 low of 70P? I'm beginning to look but would need an entry price 20% lower than where it is now so I probably won't get any. Good yield at these levels though they have dropped the dividend before. However the debt position dwarfs the market cap. I said that s why its dropping like a stone and with brexit induced consumer confidence falling it has further to fall | hybrasil
22/11/2017 18:04 | "It's the minimum wage rise that will effect here." The living wage is rising at a slower rate than first predicted by Osborne so Marstons management are getting off lightly, but will the analysts notice. I'm sure the company could find some money in the reserves set aside to lavish on the under performing board of directors. | spacecake
22/11/2017 16:15 | It's the minimum wage rise that will effect here. Although that extra cash has to be spent somewhere. | deanowls
22/11/2017 15:40 | Budget Summary: 'Duty on beer, wine, spirits and most ciders will be frozen, equating to 12p off a pint of beer and £1.15 off a bottle of whisky by next April' Whoopee! ...but when the BBC says "12p off" do they really mean the AVOIDANCE of a 12p rise? 'But duty on high-strength "white ciders" to be increased in 2019 via new legislation' So sitting on the floor necking a 2-litre bottle of White Lightning is going to cost me a bit more. Oh dear. | arf dysg
22/11/2017 12:31 | Going to a Marston pub for Christmas lunch on Christmas day...will report my findings ✔ | neilyb675
21/11/2017 11:20 | At 66, I fall into the 'beyond hope' category of old soaks who enjoy a snifter every day of the week and my offspring, either side of 30, seem to enjoy a drink and going to pubs, so I'm not sure how much of this 'research' I believe (though, of course, I'm not on close terms with many Millennials!). I can accept that expense is an issue, but then it always was. Having managed a Midlands/Northern pub estate in the 1990's, I can remember the days when putting a penny on a pint led to a noticeable drop in barrelage - the explanation being that the blokes who went in and enjoyed a 13-pint session could only afford 12 now! Pubs evolve. We've already seen the move towards food-led businesses. If people are drinking less alcohol (if!), sell 'em something else. | jeffian
21/11/2017 11:07 | I’m sure Marston’s wet sales were doing very well and this operation is not a local pub it’s a cheap food factory always packed to the rafters when I visit and who wouldn’t at those carvery prices. | 123trev
21/11/2017 10:43 | How the dramatic change in the UK's drinking habits threatens the pub trade - With more people staying in or going sober, is the end in sight for traditional pubs, asks Bradley Gerrard... | speedsgh
16/11/2017 15:01 | wonder if today's rise is linked to Young's comments today (from the FT) However, chief executive Patrick Dardis, said trading was strong in the first six months of Young’s fiscal year, with that continuing in the back half. “Despite the continuing unpredictability of our trading environment, we have made a strong start to the second half of the year,” he said. Over the past six weeks, sales have risen 7 per cent, with like for like sales up 4.9 per cent. | llef
16/11/2017 12:37 | Aye, but I meant 'the vertically integrated model' really! (Brew beer>wholesale/di | jeffian
16/11/2017 12:12 | I might extend that to a few millennia. Make beer... sell beer... We've been at it for a long time. The bible even says that Noah came out of the ark and got drunk, lay down in his tent and took his clothes off, which embarrassed his daughters. It seems that the effects of alcohol on the human race are the same as they always were. | arf dysg
16/11/2017 09:26 | Nor for the past couple of centuries, come to that! | jeffian
16/11/2017 08:43 | Business plan has not changed all the way through the cycle | ianood
15/11/2017 13:20 | Added a very small amount as hit my first buy price. However got to say I think there is trouble brewing here come the next downturn. Expansionary CAPEX may need to be reigned in far more aggressively, and I do Not expect the dividend to survive at current levels. All IMV only, happy to be wrong on that caution. Lots of business plans look great near peak cycle, recessions have not been abolished however as we may find out within 12 months . | essentialinvestor
15/11/2017 12:45 | Minimum pricing for alcohol passed for Scotland | spacecake
14/11/2017 16:37 | Any time, LG ;o) | speedsgh
14/11/2017 16:14 | Thanks for that speedsgh. You've cheered me up no end. | lord gnome |
