Below comment from the above post...talk of fragile consumer confidence...what do you expect!..those in 30's 40's & 50's age group who are more money conscious would be looking to spend money from the interest they get from their savings....it is currently ZERO!!...so blame the BOE for keeping rates low for sooooooooo long....they are only interested in protecting the housing market in the process house prices have gone to the moon....they don't want borrowers to default or else banking crisis mark 2....indirectly support the banks...

Kantar said retailers had been hit by a combination of unseasonal weather and fragile consumer confidence caused by economic doom warnings around the Brexit vote.

It is absolutely horrendous for savings rates...the last cut by BOE was just not warranted...

With most banks lowering their saving rates from November & early January, this could well make many people spend their savings rather than keep in bank earning less than 1% interest. Over the next few months could well see a rise in retail sales before any major price rises next year due to the weak pound. Although if the pound strengthens then we might not see prices going up much.

OK it's not scientific but . . . was in Tunbridge Wells at the weekend (I saved up) - popped in to Marks and it was busy, food and clothes, and overheard many very positive comments re new lines.

(ShareCast News) - Morgan Stanley downgraded Debenhams to 'equalweight' from 'overweight' and cut the price target to 70p from 95p on pension deficit concerns.

The bank said it prefers overweight-rated Marks & Spencer and B&M, both of which have more potential upside to Morgan Stanley's base case with far less downside risk.

MKS +9p on the week and all the portfolio blue today :-)

Year to date portfolio is +12% (incl dividends) but instead of faffing about with individual shares I may as well have bought a FTSE100 tracker which is +12.3% YTD

:-S

Good weekend everyone.
