03/1/2014 13:54 | Clothes are MKS's biggest weakness! Poor range. Food is up there with the best. MKS are always the large "anchor" stores on the high street. The only anchor is the large rents! high inventories to stock them and large floor areas. MKS need to revamp thier store strategy, with smaller boutique's for clothes. Like what they have done with the local food express shops. | mozy123
03/1/2014 13:43 | Well, it can go either way. Although m&s has more in common with Next than Debs or JL. | casholaa
03/1/2014 13:35 | Well, as a burning short I'm asking myself if I have got this one wrong. House of Fraser, NEXT and John Lewis have all reported strong trading. Weak trading at Debenhams. Which camp will Marks be in? The P/E is on shorter's side here. MKS needs to convince the market that it can get back to earnings growth. It has been a falling behind NEXT and John Lewis for some time.... will it really have had as good a Christmas as those two? Asagi (short MKS) | asagi
03/1/2014 11:22 | Next weeks post trading statement may well be a possible page turner, but the footfall in the stores paints a very different picture to Next. | miata
03/1/2014 11:15 | Yes... a welcome retrace. However, lets me honest, we should be well north of £5. Next weeks post trading statement will be a possible page turner. | leadersoffice
03/1/2014 08:47 | They had a bit of a success with Per Una, that seemed to work and the clothes were at the front of the store. Price marked up this morning with the Next news. | lennonsalive
03/1/2014 08:26 | Too many stores, compare with NXT, Mks 700+ against NXT 200 or so, overheads too high, too much stock required, not enough online evidently, profits now less than NXT and twice the size in terms of sq. footage, probably more! Need to streamline and fast, concentrate on more profitable stores and vacant weak ones. | bookbroker
03/1/2014 08:16 | MKS had 30% back in November on certain items, jumpers, etc... They always seem to do well on food, but I'm not so sure on the clothes. | lennonsalive
02/1/2014 19:28 | They had that first mover advantage (quite mercenary for mks) with the 30% off a few days before xmas but the bad weather hit them. They did the 30% off again the following day again but limited to either online or instore only. The m&s foodhalls have done exceedingly nice. Not sure of what the market will make of it. | casholaa
02/1/2014 16:49 | encouraging price action for the short sellers today | kristini2
02/1/2014 15:07 | I took a short yesterday, looking weak at present but still a few days to go before update | kristini2
02/1/2014 14:34 | MKS keeps falling, will it hit 400p on the profit warning? | lennonsalive
24/12/2013 10:28 | I counter that, buy on any downside. Marks are Sparkling with a great tv advertising campaign. | yewtrees
24/12/2013 08:45 | sell on any up side | shayadfn
24/12/2013 08:28 | I collected my clothing goods from my local M&S food store. A number of others were doing the same. There was a separate desk for ordered food. I looked at some of their speciality Christmas foods and I bought some as they were quite unusual. Certainly a talking point will be the sparkly edible baubles, chocolate with mousse inside, hope they are good as they look. Very busy, staff restocking for Christmas Eve. | yewtrees
23/12/2013 20:09 | Maybe that guy should get his head chopped off then I'm sure he would change his mind. | apache_dropout
23/12/2013 19:13 | Saw a guy on the tv today saying it is only right that people's culture should be respected and M&S were right. Well, for that person's information, it is my "culture" to buy alcohol in M&S. Where is the respect for my culture? | uknighted
23/12/2013 18:44 | Surely a more suitable role would be cleaning the toilets. | apache_dropout
23/12/2013 15:24 | 09 January 2014 Q3 Interim Management Statement | miata
23/12/2013 14:23 | yewtree the clothes at marks are no better than at PRIMARK ONLY THE PRICES sell sell sell the CEO IS A COMPLETE DIMWIT ACLOWN AT BEST get out quick its run by simpletons just back from shopping did not go in MARKS WILL AVOID | portside1
23/12/2013 14:08 | SP looking dire- as a non- holder its looking interesting, I'll review after its well below £4- probably by end of Jan | shayadfn
23/12/2013 10:30 | MKS reverses policy. I hope some HR heads will fall. | ohbummer
23/12/2013 09:51 | I have just seen the Next advert in the paper, absolutely all sale items half price, starts boxing day. The trend seems to be forming now. Why pay the full price when you can get it cheaper in a day or so. Debenhams are one of the worse cases of this, they have so many special discount days. | yewtrees
23/12/2013 09:36 | You are most definitely wrong there, M&S are worlds apart from Primark. The quality of Marks is much better, style and fabrics. Yesterday, very few stores were not discounting, Burton/Dorothy Perkins 25 per cent off everything. Even John Lewis had discounted sale rails of current fashion. The only one sticking to their policy is Next, their sale will be on Boxing Day where they normally slash things by half. | yewtrees |
