Interest rates hiked to 1.75% and BOE warn UK will go into a recession later this year

Inflation to rise to over 13% later this year the BOE forecasts are bleak

Shoesize and a few others including myself have been warning of this for some time. The market has yet to fully react to these bleak forecasts. However as soon as the news broke at 12.00pm MARKS share price fell.

Next... Next has posted a surprise jump in sales as it cashed in on the heatwave and renewed demand for formalwear as weddings returned. The high street retailer said full-price sales were up 5pc in the second quarter – £50m ahead of previous guidance. It had expected sales to be down compared to pre-Covid levels.Next said the first half of the year was driven by a reversal of pandemic trends, with shoppers flocking back to the high street and online sales returning to normal.Unusually warm weather and pent-up demand for social events boosted trading, while Next said it had also benefited from large numbers of closures for rival stores over the last three years. However, the retailer said it did not expect the sales boost to last into the second half of the year, warning that the impact of inflation on consumer spending was likely to worsen.Next maintained its guidance of 1pc growth for full-price sales in the second half, while it lifted its guidance for full-year profit by £10m to £860m.... Marks & Spencer is to stop displaying knickers and bras on hangers to cut down on plastic waste. The supermarket said it is exploring methods to cut the number that end up in landfill sites every year.Other plans include displaying items on tables in stores to reduce the number of hangers needed. The change came after M&S received complaints from customers placing orders online for lingerie, nightwear and children's clothes. They argued that hangers were unnecessarily being included in the packages when they could have easily been folded instead.'Just remove hangers in the warehouse'One shopper wrote on social media: "I recently received four pairs of knickers from M&S online... all on hangers... really no need to send out knickers on hangers! Just remove them in the warehouse before dispatch and reuse them."... Daily Telegraph

shesize, what a dissaster for Vardy her hubby will be £3 million lighter after yesterday's verdict and she hasn't a hope in hell of appealing imo.

Not good for her QC this is what it says on his Chanbers:

""He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the law, is very bright and always calls it right."

LOL well he didn't call this one rights and he looked pig sick exiting the High Court.

Like your poetry.

2trying, MARKS indeed trying to impr0ve their immage and third party tie ups whether it will imrove profits in clothes overall is another matter.

The market is pulling both ways at the moment too undecided which way sales and profits are going. Despite the broker downgrades MARKS is holding at this level.

John Redwood@johnredwoodNo wonder the IMF thinks the U.K. will slump to the bottom of the growth lists next year from top last year. We are the only advanced economy facing big tax rises on top of the energy crunch which will drive our economy down. Time to cut taxes.6:31 pm · 26 Jul 2022·Twitter Web App
