Boris Johnson must set out an exit strategy from lockdown or risk people starting to "rise up and bring it down", a senior Tory has warned. Sir Desmond Swayne, the MP for New Forest West, told Talk Radio that the "goalposts keep moving" as to when restrictions will be lifted. He said: "We have to focus on hospital admissions and keep that focus rigorous...[or] at some stage people have got to rise up and bring it down."Yesterday the Covid Recovery Group called for an exit strategy, after the Prime Minister refused to say whether restrictions would be lifted by the summer, having originally ear-marked mid-February. Priti Patel, the Home Secretary, also dampened hopes of foreign summer holidays. This morning George Eustice, the Environment Secretary, told Sky News that he was hopeful by "late spring/early summer it will be possible to return to life much closer to normal", adding that "it won't be normal, but we will start to come out of lockdown and return to life as we once knew it."... I'm thinking all the open shops look reasonable bet but M&S market cap as a percentage of sales looks very enticing..

I took a tiny position (just tiny experiment)
Lets see what the afternoon brings.

‘One of the most egregious human tragedies since the Holocaust’

One in five cotton products worldwide is made with Xinjiang cotton, though Marks & Spencer last week signed a call to action regarding Xinjiang and pledged to stop using any cotton from the region.

What the West can do about China’s Uighur labor camps

In the factories the Uighurs are held under prison-like conditions, with daily indoctrination sessions

QANTAS both Joules and Jaeger good British brands, what Joules could do is close its shops and rely online and instore MARKS stores just like John Lewis are doing.

This could be a good move for MARKS and put John Lewis at risk here but benefit MARKS as the last man on the High Street.

They are doing everything which I thought they should be doing and we could start to see a price breakout on the upside.

QANTAS some interesting development in MARKS:

Should MARKS rebrand as a department store?

QANTAS and I have debated a similar tactic previously and it is actually close to that by signing up deals with other partners like Joules

The era of Biden reflation is in full swing already. Commodities are on fire. Agricultural prices have risen 42pc since touching bottom in April. Industrial metals have risen 54pc. Both are higher than they were before the pandemic began. The spot price of liquefied natural gas has exploded, reaching an all-time high of $32 (mmBtu) in Asia. There is panic buying. Oil lags because of the inventory glut but that will vanish as economies open up. Shipping costs for container freight have tripled on some oceanic routes. "It's the Wild West at the moment," said S&P Global Platts. The pandemic is causing distortions but there is little doubt that inflation is picking up in earnest. So what will happen to the US economy when Joe Biden pushes through $1.9 trillion (£1.5 trillion) of extra fiscal stimulus on top of the $900bn agreed just before Christmas? It is the fifth jumbo package since Covid struck... Daily Telegraph

Aiming to cut the food miles ands boost UK productionJANUARY 21, 2021 POST A COMMENTQuestion:To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what steps he is taking to protect marine conservation areas from illegal fishing by large trawlers. (136424)Tabled on: 12 January 2021Answer:Victoria Prentis:As an independent coastal state, the UK has full responsibility over how it manages all of our fisheries. All vessels fishing in our waters have to be licensed by a UK Fisheries Administration, and abide by the licence conditions and relevant legislation. We are also committed to ensuring an effective and robust enforcement system. To ensure appropriate arrangements to enforce fisheries regulations are in place to protect our waters, including marine protected areas, the Government has put in place a significant increase in the number of personnel and surveillance assets dedicated to fisheries protection, which includes offshore patrol vessels supported by aerial and radar surveillance. This strong presence will deter against any fisheries infringements. The answer was submitted on 20 Jan 2021 at 16:39.Question:To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what Government (a) grant and (b) loan assistance is available to people wishing to expand capacity of vegetable and fruit growing under suitable cover to extend the growing season and protect from weather damage. (136427)Tabled on: 12 January 2021Answer:Victoria Prentis:The Government has provided some limited grant support for indoor horticultural growers through the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) for the purchase of innovative lighting, heating and irrigation technology. Funding continues to be available to producer organisations who implement operational programmes in the Fruit and Vegetable Aid Scheme. From autumn 2021 my department will launch the new Farming Investment Fund, providing grants to farmers, foresters and growers to enable them to invest in the equipment, technology and infrastructure that will help their businesses to prosper, while improving their productivity and enhancing the environment. My officials are working with stakeholders and others on the detailed design of the scheme. The answer was submitted on 20The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has provided the following answer to your written parliamentary question (136425):Question:To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, if he will ban supertrawlers from fishing in UK waters to help protect fish stocks and the marine environment. Good morning QANTAS

Interesting data on inflation, which was downward on food and up slightly on clothes and it should be the opposite.

Seems less discounts this year on clothes have you found that?

Although I haven't bought much I do feel there is less discounting on clothes, I think the retailers are getting far more savvy at not giving stock away below stock.
