MKS were 600p may 2015, having just made 600m profit.
Predicted profit this year to be announced shortly is about £570m.
dividend is 5%+.
The share has collapsed to 319p(47%) in 17 months.
The new CEO seems to know what he is doing.

Just read in the London Ev Standard that Liberum have put MKS on their 'conviction sell' list saying in their opinion online clothing sales will not make up for the fall in the store clothing sales for the next few years.

Zara and Primark can unashamedly target a younger fashionable demographic
and also benefit from older age groups who like to stay on trend.

MKS appear torn between their older clothing customer base
and attempting to appeal to a younger shopper.
Even allowing for this recent efforts on non food often fall short.

Food is a little easier as great food appeals universally.

LOL's, see what I mean.
"Also, it depends on what mood she was in when shopping, as this can affect what appears to your mind, ie., if she return to store another day she might have liked the collection" ;o)

Update on my wife`s shopping habits ;-)

So she`s just walked in the front door £100 lighter carrying an M&S bag containing a pair of knee length black boots saying they`re the best boots she`s ever seen !!

Aaargghhhhhh :-D

Yes if you first just look at the price tag of any clothing & then look at the clothing for material/appearance/fitting....you think is it really worth that much!!...they are out of touch with pricing compared to quality/look of the product they are selling....if you going to sell it to the masses then be realistic with pricing...or else it will just stay hanging on the hanger!...

I would take what Zak says with a pinch of salt, every share I've seen him give targets on since 2009 his prediction has failed.

Don't you just love sharing your wife's clothing taste here!...it sure got the thread going!!...

Think the youngsters like Primark, Next & the matures like M&S...but must say M&S prices are a bit overpriced but then when you have overly larger stores then the cost base is bound to be higher than likes of Primarks...

Just trade companies that you buy from ?

M&S food is outstanding and the potential is there for the shareprice if they sell off some of their clothing retail estate I reckon. That`s why I hold MKS.

Clothing is a tricky one.

Personally I go to either Next or Ted Baker but most would say my taste is dreadful :-)

Morning guys

Only passing on what she told me

M&S clothing - uninspirnig, dowdy, overpriced, average quality.

Primark - modern, fahionable , good value

But neither had the trenchcoat she wanted which was bought in Zara.

They must use focus groups to research taste.
Parading competing designs in front of many groups and testing the response.
The ones on sale are probably the most popular.
..but like the Brexit vote or Trump vs Hillary,
people differ.

retail is difficult.

phil, everyone has different tastes, what one woman likes, another woman hates etc.

Just because your wife doesn't like the autumn collection doesn't mean all women think like her. Also, it depends on what mood she was in when shopping, as this can affect what appears to your mind, ie., if she return to store another day she might have liked the collection, also did she see the full collection or just focused on hats. ;o)

If you ask many other women they might say totally the opposite, 'what a great autumn collection this year' etc. So you have to ask at least 100 women their opinion on the autumn collection to reach a result that the M&S Autumn collection is very poor or very good. It is clearly daft for example for the press to say, the autumn collection is very poor, based on one womans opinion.

She should look closer at the quality of the fabric and manufacture.
Marks are getting it back.

Cheap rags may look the same, but they do not last.
The Duchess of Cambridge will not be looking at Primark just yet.
Not many women want cheap disposable clothes.
