Redbaron you put the story of lmi very well.It is often the time and energy expended on these losing investments that is the most frustrating. But with Sibanye lmi has a better chance no doubt.

Green shoots? Is Lonmin doing a Lazarus? Let's just keep our fingers crossed the Sibanye deal completes.Thankfully i've always had a AAL hedge against this investment, but the amount of time i've wasted on this commodity play has meant it will live long in my investment memory.Every investor has his losers, but the geopolitical backdrop, the demise of diesel cars, the legacy issues, the continual drip feeding of negative newsfeed around this company, means that i can't wait for it to tie up with Sibanye.I appreciate the large debt pile this company has already, but it will have more success in future pay negotiations with the mining unions imho and there is a dose of realism now that Ramaphosa has replaced Zuma.Patience is the name of the game investing in gold and pm.

Bouleversee I fully understand the potental value of platinum but the mismangement and sorry story of lonmin is hard to grasp.I have lost over a hundred thousand pounds on paper in lonmin and also took up rights issueBy the way I am a middleaged male!!!

There is a lot of debate about how the car industry moves forward with new power sources , one of those is Fuel cell technology and the catalyst is Platinum using Hydrogen fuel stacks , these can also be used in other applications , Johnson Mathey are very much involved in developing this market , and all the major vehicle manufacturers are also developing system , at the moment the city analyst are undecided , but the driver will be the motor industry itself.

Could you please explain to this elderly lady who doesn't know much about the workings of cars why the increase in electric cars will benefit platinum producers. I thought platinum was used in catalytic converters in diesel cars and had assumed that their decline would be bad news for platinum producers. What is its function in elec. cars that will more than compensate?

I lost my entire original investment in LMI which I have held for many years and am losing a large percentage of the rights issue cost so while it's nice to see an uptick am not exactly rejoicing or over optimistic of doing more than recovering the rights cost.

Foxy , am long both companies , if we are in for a downturn in the markets at some stage , then Sibanye gold will have it's day and probably other metals as well.

Foxy , Lonmin have been a one trick pony , under Sibanye they will have financial protection , which as a stand alone company they have lost over the years through poor management of the assets , a clean start should energise the whole workforce for the benefit of all concerned , lets hope so anyway , major holders will not vote against it , thats for sure. The other positive is that the sibanye share price is at a low point so lots of scope for a masssive upturn in time.

JotohaOne question in your view are we getting a good deal or not and if platinum price and sibanye were to recover could we see decent returnsAlso what likelihood of deal being rejected by lmi and sibanye shareholders?

Exactly , I belief the market for PGM is going to take a massive upturn in the coming years , princibly through the increase in electric vehicles , so this sector will boom , Mr Fronnemann is ahead of the game !!
