Ref JOGI told you all that it had risen to quick at 309. It's now 297 Take the 12 points profit. Don't be greedy, who cares if it falls further, it could easily rise with this one. It's still way overvalued though. You'll see 100p again with JOG

harry_david,in answer to your query regarding why the zar is appreciating, posters on other forums are of the opinion the zar is being bought in carry-trades in tandem with a lower dollar index.Don't do forex trading so i don't know if this is fact or fiction. However, these short-term carry trades are unlikely to continue much longer and the zar could potentially fall from these levels when the long-term implications of the sovereign credit rating cuts take an economic affect in SA.Just passing on info,i have no idea if it's of any benefit.

harry_david,like you i find the reaction to the sacking of the finance minister on the ZAR to be quite strange.Added to that,Fitch, among other rating agencies, reduced SA sovereign credit rating status. The rand depreciated markedly against the dollar initially, but now that trend has reversed.I think, along with other EM currencies, the rand was so battered after years of depreciating, alongside dollar strength, that foreign investors reversed the currency outflows because they spotted an investment return opportunity.I find this behaviour odd because all the signals coming out from SA and other African regimes(look at ACA in Tanzania with the ban of mineral ore exports) is that foreign investors will pay a price now.I see no incentive investing somewhere where the authorities wish to penalise those investors.Foreign investment appears to be unwelcome now.I prefer a friendly environment for investing,i don't believe SA provides that with Zuma.

RedBarron, one last question. I have no knowledge of SA politics but why is the currency holding so well when there is a political crisis over the firing of the Treasurer? If Zuma is about to get his comeuppance the currency would then rocket and platinum miners would all be at the knackers. Something here does not make sense.

I am very concerned over the cash drain. I take your point that 'Big Ben' may have some answers but the last report indicated a price in rands of over 14,500 in platinum to be cash neutral. It is a big gap compared with the current price.

RedBarron, your comments of 13th are good questions to hang onto.
In this volatile market they need a weekly review methinks.
Any positive news comments in SA on Lonmin?
Currency holding surprisingly high given local political non action, especially regarding Zuma.
Platinum price appears impacted by another bout of anti diesel publicity.
Cash trend right now is the key to which way this goes, is it not?

"I made a small killing". Contradiction in terms. You either made a small profit or a killing; can't be both.
