Goes back to the point i made above - those that are selling today can only have small holdings that they can sell. Those with larger portfolio's and hence larger holdings cannot sell on a whim..

Folks are selling today because the French have announced a snap investment. Some investors really need to take a hard look at themselves and ask themselves is investing really for them, if they are that nervous...

I read a stat recently that the average time someone holds stocks now is 6 months, totally ridiculous..

I'm personally aiming for 36 stock portfolio over the medium term. I hold 29 and just need to add little more to complete my MNG position. I have a takeover at the moment that should go through over the next 6 weeks CTO and with the proceeds ill be buying 2 new companies which will take my portfolio too 30 companies. It will probably take afew years to get to overall goal 36 positions, when I do hit 36 its one in one out. its good to plan ahead with a good watchlist so when you do get a takeover you have others to jump into a position..

If you are lucky enough to have a seven figure plus value portfolio then common sense dictates that you are naturally a long term investor either by choice or by default..

The reason is because of liquidity. Why then do all these high profile media investors say they hold 10 - 15 stocks and then claim to be able to buy and sell out of them whenever they want to? I would take what they say with a very large pinch of salt. Either they don't have seven figure portfolios like they claim or they only put relatively small amounts into these small-caps (so they can easily sell them) which means if they do double in value or whatever it is pretty meaningless.

An example of a seven figure portfolio holding 15 stocks equally weighted gives just over £66k in each holding. Many small-cap stocks (even quite large market cap) you would not be able to easily buy that many or certainly sell that much all in one go. Even if you were able you would move the price each time against you and i know this from experience myself.

Even Lord Lee admits that his holdings in TET and ANP are so large that he cannot sell, he is only able to trim a few if he so wished.

HL are stopping some individual investors buying certain stocks because they haven't completed an assessment with some stocks but your still allowed to hold or sell them. Some investors on the SHED forum are complaining about it. Surely on a self assessment platform you make your own decisions what you want to buy can sell

NICL numbers look decent 7% up, with 67 million cash pile. I've always got a big bottle of vimto in the house the diluted one, from BM bargains..

I tried to buy a Vimto the other day when i stopped at a petrol station a few miles away, but none in the fridge. Dominated by every kind of Coke flavour possible plus Fanta, tango, Sprite, Lilt and Pepsi, just about everything but. Not the first time this has happened either..

Have a look next time you are in a petrol station up your way..

I cannot understand why they don't try to take Coke head-on. Coke are everywhere but Vimto just don't seem to be.

Pinemartin, I personally voted Conservative all my life, but I won't be voting for them in this current election. Liz truss and Co crashed the economy with bizarre spending plans, plus Jeremy Hunt has reduced capital gain tax allowance from over 12k to 3k within 2 years, so any shares out of a isa or sipp you will be paying alot more tax. I've told my Conservative MP face to face why I won't be voting for Conservatives, and reasons why. When she came knocking at my door today...

Any thoughts on what/who benefits with a Labour government? O and G looks at a standstill, perhaps renewables companies will do OK? What about other sectors?

EBOX could have a possible takeover offer, no price has been announced yet, hopefully its at a decent premium.

Should hopefully make the market realise how cheap and undervalued these reits currently are. Some of these reits shareprice are over 30% below their NAVS

Yes, pleasing. I've got two more stocks flying today also STB and ALU.

In all three cases it could just be recovery from over-sold cheap levels but you never really know if something else is behind the strong rises...
