Winston Wolf....that's not a valid analogy. I'm sure if Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland ever were to achieve independence from the UK, the UK would respect it. The EU/NATO did not solicit the ex Soviet states to join them, but they were made welcome when they applied and joined. And why did the join the EU? They had seen through first hand experience what trading with the old Soviet bloc brought them, nothing but hardship and economic destitution.
