I'd sooner live under the EU jackboot than buy one of those horrible new minis! They are everything the real mini was not; there is not a trace of the spirit of the original in these monstrosities.

I have been US bred in wanting to calculate risks and celebrate success. 'Win some and win some more' was one of our phrases. Many on this thread would be happy trading with Sheffield and perhaps exporting to the Isle of Wight.
That is not a strategy that will succeed.

Hi jacko, Brexit of course will happen, the outcome will be fascinating. I posted years back - more interesting than any soap.

Domestic companies must not turn in on themselves at this point to have any form of success. Several big domestics are now doing that a la Lloyds as you can see around the threads. Barclaycard looks as though heading domestic as it pulls out of countries next month. There should be a push for more exports not the reverse. Bad news.

Paul Wusteman15 Sep 2020 1:05PMAh Bless! The issue before Parliament now is the invasive control that the WA gives the EU over UK policy, totally incompatible with UK sovereignty and the expressed democratic will  of the British people to leave the EU.And what does the EU immediately do?Of course, it helpfully provides an example of the EU undertaking invasive control that the WA gives the EU over UK policy, totally incompatible with UK sovereignty and the expressed democratic will  of the British people to leave the EU.The EU people aren't only cult members, they are unbelievably crass and stupid with it.Colin Martin15 Sep 2020 1:07PM@Paul WustemanThis is the perfect example of what Treason May tried to saddle us with. She might yet have her way........Paul Wusteman15 Sep 2020 1:12PM@Colin Martin @Paul WustemanIf this article is correct, I think the EU have blown it big-time, by actually needlessly providing an example of what the WA means. Without needing to study the details, the EU message is - follow what we want you to do or we will restrict internal trade in the UK.I don't see how the Tory MP Remainers can answer this. It's deselection/end-of-career time. The local Associations will use this as they are morally obliged to.... Daily Telegraph

Alp..I would never bash you mate, you are a 24ct Remainer who has most likely accepted that there is diddly squat that you can do about it apart from making money.

Don't fret, the EU and the rest of the world are going to soon realise that the UK is probably the best long term bet out there!

careful, just go and live the other side of the English Channel, you will be so much happier with Mr Barnier as your Lord and Master. The EU is way more bust than we are, it's protectionist and uncompetitive, and just gets in the way of commerce. The whole experiment has lost it's way (or perhaps not?), as it seeks to create another America but with the Germans running the show to benefit their industries and ambitions, whilst the French indulge their love of embroidering everything with choking bureaucracy. Plus I suspect for reasons of history there's a desire within those two nations to bring this country to it's knees.

Today: Big win for Brexit in key Commons vote as UK rejects Barnier's weaponisation of the Northern Ireland border and the EU issues new threats towards the City of LondonBig win for Brexit in key Internal Market Bill vote: Last night, the government won its key vote on the Internal Market Bill by 340 to 263. This is only the first of the votes they will be looking to win as the Bill goes into the committee stage for the rest of the week where amendments or changes to the Bill can be made. Just two Tory MPs actively voted against the Bill last night with others abstaining, but as Michael Fabricant points out on Twitter, these MPs mainly consist of those dumped from Johnson's Cabinet and those who have opposed Brexit from the start. However, there is still a very real threat from pro-EU forces at the heart of the British political establishment and the Brexit battle is not yet won. If you had spent the evening watching Twitter you would have been under the impression that the opposition would win it by a landslide. However, as was the case in the 2019 election, Boris sailed through. Boris warns of EU's threats: The PM gave a particularly impassioned speech about the "extreme and unreasonable lengths" the EU has gone to in order to exert leverage against the UK, weaponising Northern Ireland in order to shackle Britain back to Brussels and make every attempt to stop Brexit becoming an incredible success. Johnson criticised the EU's latest threat to not list the UK as a third country, prohibiting Britain from transferring animal products to Northern Ireland. Boris even went as far as to say Brussels had put a "revolver on the table" and that the legislation was necessary "to protect this country against the EU's proven willingness to use this delicately balanced protocol in ways for which it was never intended," such as blocking the transfer of animal products from Great Britain to Northern Ireland.NI issue weaponised by EU: Ahead of the vote last night, Arlene Foster, Northern Ireland's First Minister said that the EU "needs to stop using Northern Ireland to get their own way" and that NI was "not the plaything of the EU", echoing the sentiment of many in the Commons later on. The Northern Ireland issue has long been something the EU have looked to exploit but the vote last night helps to nullify this somewhat. But the Brexit battle is not won yet: The government will now gear up to fight more battles over proposed amendments, most notably, the Bob Neill amendment that will seek to force further votes in the Commons on the commencement regulations for specific clauses. Basically providing an extra hurdle before regulations can be made that breach the Northern Ireland Protocol. It is a big win then, for Boris and the government and with many more Brexit battles to be had in the Commons leading up to the end of the transition period, Sir Bernard Jenkin pointed out yesterday "voters will support a government that's determined to resist the unreasonable enforcement of the Withdrawal Agreement by the EU" and that "voters will expect no less" than taking back control of our laws, a point that becomes even more important given the Brexit Party have issued a clear warning to sitting MPs that they will contest the seats of MPs who "vote for Brexit in name only".The debate has opened the public's eyes to the issues outstanding in the Withdrawal Agreement and Northern Ireland Protocol, something that Brexiteers have been warning of for months. This is partly why Johnson felt the need to deliver such a powerful speech and make clear that he would not bow down to Brussels demands. The EU just couldn't help themselves and began, yet again, issuing threats and making Downing Street aware of the potential damage that could be inflicted by the EU acting in bad faith and deliberately misinterpreting the agreement. Time to pull out more threats: The EU is retaliating in the Brexit divorce battle by threatening Britain's dominance of the financial markets and delaying the decision on whether the City of London can continue to handle lucrative euro transactions. Britain's world-beating financial services have been the topic of much debate in negotiations, despite often being overshadowed by fisheries and state aid. EU leaders believe that the bulk of the clearing for its currency should reside in the eurozone and be regulated by its own European Central Bank, but with London being internationally recognised as the best in the business, this latest EU threat seems more like an act of self mutilation. Andrew Bridgen, Tory MP for North West Leicestershire, said: "Given that the EU breaches the withdrawal agreement by not negotiating in good faith and threatening to ban UK food exports to Northern Ireland, this latest response makes we wonder why we're even trying to do a deal with these people."Patel says government is 'absolutely not' breaking the law: This morning Priti Patel toured the news rooms where she said the government is "absolutely not" breaking the law by introducing the Internal Market Bill and added that it was vital to "preserving the integrity of the United Kingdom." She made clear that the government would do all it can to iron out the inconsistencies in the Withdrawal Act and Northern Ireland Protocol in the Joint Committee but that it needed a safety net after the EU had recently threatened a maximalist interpretation of the agreements. On our site today: Today's article comes from Adrian Hill who served with Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service for almost 30 years. His article looks at the lengths Merkel and her EU empire will go to in order to protect their trade surplus with the UK. Have you noticed the subtle change of the Bexiteers position.
'Better to be free and poor', these wealthy politicians argue.

Remember 'better dead than Red' and all of that Cold War propaganda?
What bile.

how many of us would choose to die rather than live in a communist country?

Why are you Brexiteers and Boris worshippers so confident of the future?
I fear that things are going get really bad over the next 12 months.

k38 just posted 'free and strong'.
Those words will come back to haunt him.

Even Redwood, the historian turned politician turned finance guy said in his post today;

'It was never about wealth, economics, trade, it was about freedom and independence.'
(or something like that)

All right for him to concede a lower standard of living on the poor, he has a secure job, a huge pension and lots of cash.
Deplorable.
