Did the entire Cummings family wear nappies on their journey?

This daily press conference is excruciating. So the official advice as we are now being told as of the last 10 minutes versus the message of the past 2 months, is travel as far as you want if you have the virus if it means getting closer to other family members wherever they are. Hmm. Just like the removal of the NHS fee for foreign workers, it does seem this defence of Cummings is just not sustainable and fairly repugnant given how many people followed the ‘old’ guidelines to the word and as a result missed, deaths, births etc.

The government is now changing its advice in real time on live television so that it fits what Cummings did. This creates a practical problem, which is that we’re now moving away from clinically driven guidance to politically expedient guidance. Which puts everyone at risk and hinders national recovery. And all for one person’s job. If Johnson cared about the country he’d fire Cummings. If Cummings cared about the country he’d resign.

How the government can try to justify the actions of the Cummings family is beyond me... it’s totally outrageous that the rules can be stretched to encompass the extraordinary breach of the lockdown rules by Cummings. The government should refund fines and apologize to all others who broke the rules or explain clearly why not if they don’t!
This government has no moral authority any longer to request anything from citizens. They should all resign.

If like me you consider Cummings should be sacked or even better put in the sticks, then write to your M. P. and tell them.

If enough of us do it the message may get through.

If not, reading the comments below I think we are in for some serious civil disobedience .and maybe worse as trust in government and their advisors goes completely out of the window.

Based on this afternoon’s news conference, we now have a lockdown where you can travel 260 miles, which is clearly the opposite of what the government were saying just yesterday. The rules hastily rewritten to save one adviser, who by some accounts was so ill he was in the garden playing ABBA records.

There is a risk now the lockdown collapses in the next two weeks under the weight of mass disobedience.

Clever...............................NOT!

This has me in tears of frustration and anger at people who have kept families apart but have no sense of guilt when they break those rules themselves.

The brazen actions of someone of, overbearing arrogance, contemptuous of the British people and thoroughly weird. He should not be allowed the honour of resignation.

Had Cummings crashed on that 260 mile journey, firemen and policemen would have pulled him out the wreckage. Paramedics would have treated him, and rode with him in an ambulance. That’s a lot of people to put at risk of catching the virus.
There is also the issue of leaving a city with a Nightingale hospital, and travelling to a city that presumably didn’t have that sort of additional ICU capacity.

If Johnson does not remove Cummings then the public have no duty to follow government guidelines going forward. That is the only conclusion possible from this episode. To hell with what the government ask the people to do if the PM’s main advisor thinks he can flout the rules and the rest of us have to follow what he formulated in No.10. This is a key moment in Johnson - he will loose the confidence of the people if he doesn’t do the obvious right thing on this issue.

He thinks that it doesn't matter how it looks? Perception is more important than fact. This is not okay and it's this classic Tory arrogance that, frankly, we all deserve, because we gave these Public School boys an overwhelming majority. What a mess.

Absolute corruption, whilst millions loose their jobs and thousands their business's due to the lockdown, the elite have complete disregard for their edicts to the masses. We need to wake up to this authoritarian nightmare we have become.
