ConversationJohn Redwood@johnredwoodIsn't it time to put an end to the trade and NHS scares? The UK will not sign any Trade deal which puts the NHS risk. Parliament would not vote for a trade deal which put the NHS at risk. The idea of Trade deals is to make life better for us!

Not having people of privilege does not kill time to develop art, reflect on politics or get involved in philosophy. We have plenty of people in academia who are paid to do just that based on meritocracy.

Looking back in history, some of the best works of art by the world's best artists were commissioned by the churches. In other words paid work, again through merit.

No piece of great art has been created by a waster who found himself in the lucky sperm club.

You tell me what the descendants of privilege do today apart from wasting their lives as socialites and getting involved in philanthropy to try and remove guilt from their conscience with regards to their immoral position.

I have no need to retract anything. It was a reasonable assumption. However, I'm happy to accept I might have been wrong.

"This is rubbish. The existence of privilege and inequality is the foundation of civilization. If everyone had to spend 12 hours a day on hard physical labour there would be nobody to create works of art, to reflect on politics and philosophy, to write music and so on"

Eh?

Why the hell not?

"I have also read Voltaire in the original French, which I somehow suspect Minerve has not."

I used to live in the French part of Belgium. Where do you think 'Minerve' comes from?

Now perhaps you might need to retract that. ;)

mr elbee, the more I have looked at it this pm, the more I like. Some big shareholders on board and I think trading update in January. I would like to see it pull back a little before entering as its up on the Directors buy today. Firm support at 20p. Next potential resistance area 25p, but could easily get through that. After that there is a lot of fresh air. I am a buyer, just timing. Dyor of course.

I have boxed in my youth and can enjoy a good fight to this day - and I have also read Voltaire in the original French, which I somehow suspect Minerve has not.
