By email from the Great Winnifroth..

The Mrs is now due to give birth in England in just two days. Driving to Chester for tests yesterday, we passed through a land once again in lockdown. Here in Wales, by contrast, the fire-break house arrest system drew to a close on Monday. We are therefore being warned by our great leaders that we must be wary of infidel English folks crossing the border trying to get a drink in our pubs or to buy non-essential goods in our shops. I kid you not. Such warnings have indeed been issued as some chap having a lager & lime in the local boozer could indeed cause a resurgence in infections in Wales.

Of course, the whole affair, on both sides of the border, is a farce. Across most of England the rate of growth of infections was slowing in most places before the lockdown started. In some places the rate was actually falling. So when the rate is lower at the end the Government will – with no proof whatsoever say that the pain of its policy (missed cancer tests, jobs lost, businesses going bust, suicides, etc) was all worth it. It is such an obvious lie but still, it seems, most of the population and nearly all of the media and political class is happy to swallow it.

Many of us will never forgive not just the Government but the entire political and media class for this scandal. But at least it now looks to be an episode that is drawing to a close with news that a vaccine that will stop 90% of cases may be ready for use by Christmas. We say ready for use but I fear that the rushed testing undertaken gives me no confidence that there may not be some long term side effects. So, I shall decline to use the vaccine if offered.

As things stand the average Covid casualty lived longer than UK life expectancy and the survival rate is 99.97% so with the vaccine it appears that we might return to a “normal” life soon. Unless of course you or your family have been affected by job loss, a missed cancer test, a suicide or a shrinking economy. So while life will get better for most of us for a large number it will still present horrible challenges that have only arisen because of Government blunders.

I find it hard to explain - but Lloyds bank is not a charity.
Ppl think they have a right to use a bank without paying.
I just want to get my money out - my benefits via PO.
Who created this - B Liar/Broon.
Nowhere is there free banking apart from UK.

"control of borders"

Still doesn't stop an ignorant moron like you coming into my village now does it.

I'd rather the foreign immigrant.

Markets go up and down for all reasons.. they can't go up all times.Alot countries beg to join the union but they never expected to turn to this mess. Now, all of them lost their freedom to decide for themselves. UK decide not to be one of them. UK is a big boy and able to make their own decisions. Be happy you live in a free country like UK.

You must remember that it we in the UK that begged to join the EU.
Originally we were turned down.

How wealthy we became as members over the decades. (relative GDP growth)
Hopefully we shall strike a trade deal any time now.

If only our involvement with Europe had been limited to free trade. Being part of the EU political union, losing our sovereignty, control of borders, fisheries etc was the problem. No more thankfully.

'Americans should be proud of Obamacare'

"Obamacare is the law that every American should be proud of," says Biden about the law that is loathed by conservatives. He goes on to tout the effects of the law on the American economy and society.

"It's why people with pre-existing conditions are protected in this country. It's a law that delivered vital coverage to 20 million Americans who did not have coverage. It's a law that reduced prescription drug cost for nearly 12 million seniors."

He adds: "If you're sick, if you struggling, if you're worried about how you're going to get going or go through the day, we will not abandon you.

"That is a promise. We will not leave you to face these challenges alone," he adds.
