29/9/2020 11:57 | Today: EU back down and agree to start joint legal text; Frost fears a trap on fisheries; Gove stands up to Brussels over Internal Market Bill and the Commission look to hinder Global Britain with 'at risk' goods proposal.EU back down over legal text demands: Formal Brexit talks return today with EU negotiators finally indicating that they are prepared to start writing a joint legal text of a trade agreement. In a significant move, Brussels is understood to have dropped its demand for the two sides to reach a broad agreement on all the outstanding areas of dispute before drafting a final agreement. This week's negotiating round has also been extended and will include more sessions on the key areas of difficulty. Something smells fishy: The UK is said to be expected to engage in detailed discussions on post-Brexit fishing quotas and the government's future subsidy policy as Brussels proposes to enter into secret trade negotiations called "Le Submarine". However, the Sun are reporting that Frost and his team fear a trap on fishing and that Brussels will use the talks to try and bounce Britain into last minute concessions or face being blamed for talks collapsing. Gove reaffirms Commons commitment to Internal Market Bill: One row that is effectively being put on hold is the one over the Internal Market Bill. The EU have said they will "not be shy" in using "legal remedies" in the Withdrawal Agreement to address any violations, although Sefcovic refused to spell out what action the EU might take when, inevitably, the UK has not amended the Bill by the Commission's Wednesday deadline. When Michael Gove met with Maros Sefcovic yesterday, he made clear to him that the 'controversial' clauses within the Internal Market Bill "will remain" and that the Bill is a safety net that has the support of Parliament. The Internal Market Bill has now completed the Committee stage and has its report stage and third reading tonight. Despite Theresa May mounting an opposition, there is no danger of the government losing the vote.Much to be done despite greater optimism: Despite optimistic reports over the weekend, state aid, fish and governance are still big outstanding issues, but with the EU finally dropping its demand to reach a broad agreement on all the outstanding areas of dispute before drafting a final agreement - something that Frost has been asking for for months now - a deal is more likely but still a way off yet.The Prime Minister's spokesman said "Although the last two weeks of informal talks have been relatively positive there remains much to be done.""We simply want the standard free trade agreement... we continue to be asked to accept provisions that do not reflect the reality of our status as an independent country." Which is it Charles?: Brexit Britain will look to be much less EU-facing and instead establish trade agreements with some of the fastest growing parts of the world, Liz Truss told a Spectator event. She also stressed the importance of doing away with certain EU regulations but dismissed fears over the dreaded 'chlorinated chicken'.European Council President Charles Michel, has warned that the UK will be flooded by cheap food after the end of the transition period. Surprising, given the fact that for the last 4 years we've been constantly warned of food shortages. Commission's 'at risk' goods proposal could hold back Global Britain: The European Commission has set out a proposal that would determine which goods moving from Britain to Northern Ireland should attract a tariff and which would not after the transition period ends. The Joint Committee has been tasked with clearing up ambiguities in the protocol in order to work out a system that defines exactly what "goods at risk" are in practice. There has been much disagreement between the two sides as to how strict the definition should be with the UK expected to introduce fresh legislation that would give Britain the power to unilaterally decide which goods going to Northern Ireland should face customs duties. The Commission's proposal would involve working out the differential between an EU tariff and the corresponding UK tariff on a product as a way of determining whether or not that product was at risk of crossing into the single market. The Commission believes that goods with a higher EU tariff than the UK's would be more likely to be smuggled across the border and that those goods should be deemed 'at risk'.However, with the UK looking to be at the centre of a network of free trade agreements and become a free trading hub in the world, as Liz Truss has stated, the proposal could result in problems in the future. As the UK looks to reduce tariffs through free trade agreements with the fastest growing economies in the world, this could result in the amount of 'at risk' goods increasing over time.Ministers look to strengthen Korea ties: Greg Hands MP has been in Korea for a meeting with his counterpart to discuss the UK-Korea FTA and the shared commitment of both countries to a strong future trading relationship. Raab also travelled to meet Korean Foreign Minister Kang to talk about boosting trade collaboration and discuss security in the region. For the latest news and developments throughout the day, please do follow @GlobalVision_UK on Twitter. Thanks for reading, and enjoy the rest of your day. | xxxxxy

29/9/2020 10:44 | You're right, careful, that The Daily Telegraph is indistinguishable from The Guardian these days, just another leftist propaganda sheet. The rest of your post is, of course, drivel. | grahamite2
29/9/2020 10:39 | Amazing how the Daily Telegraph has turned against Boris Johnson. The need to survive. Their readership will have turned against him and will stop buying this propaganda rag. I read the Telegraph for years, but I could not stand their brainwashing and absence of impartiality any more. So I quit my subscription. Never a week goes by when I am not bombarded with E mails with special offers. I am the one that got away, and there must be thousands of us. Most on this thread hated Bercow,he was a thorn in Boris Johnson side when he tried to bye pass parliament. (As he still is.) Johnson is as vindictive as hell, a nasty piece of work.We knew that by his treatment of the likes of Ken Clark and Christopher Soames. but to deny Bercow his traditional gong, after holding a centuries old office, at the same time awarding his invisible brother knighthood is despicable. We are in trouble with this idiot, and I voted for him. No choice. | careful
