28/5/2020 08:21 | Typical comments on bargainbob's Telegraph article above: Jim Bob 28 May 2020 8:18AM I don't think even The Guardian would publish such a shallow and embarrassingly childish personal attack as this. Charlie Louis 28 May 2020 8:17AM If the recent editorial slant on the DT continues then my subscription won't be renewed. There are plenty of other left wing propaganda outlets in the UK where I can read this sort of nonsense. | grahamite2

28/5/2020 06:22 | Remember. For there is work still in process. Why we voted leave By JOHNREDWOOD | Published: MARCH 23, 2018 On 23rd June 2016 17.4 million voters told Parliament we should leave the EU. Leave voters voted to take back control. We voted to take back control of our money, our laws and our borders. We voted to be a sovereign people again. The overarching aim is to restore our freedoms To become self governing as we used to be We wish our Parliaments to frame our laws To levy and spend out taxes To make our borders safe To award the precious gift of citizenship to those we choose to invite We did not vote in the belief that future Parliaments will always be wise Nor that they will always get it right We voted to restore powers to Parliament because it is our Parliament We can lobby and influence it We can dismiss it and replace the MPs when they no longer please. I find it surprising that some find it difficult to understand this overriding wish For it is based on our long standing pursuit of freedom It springs from our history The history of the UK is the story of the long march of every man and every woman to the vote The story of asserting the rule of law against all, however mighty. We prize the gift of freedom under the law for all on an equal basis We share an aversion to slavery A dislike of military rule A resistance to arbitrary government A rejection of the patronising errors of elites A distaste for overmighty bureaucracies cramping our freedoms A belief that we should be free to do whatever we please unless the laws prevents it The signposts to democracy run through Magna Carta to the first Parliaments From the 1660 settlement to the Glorious Revolution From the Great Reform Act to the triumph of the suffragettes We carelessly lost some of these freedoms, casting away much of the power of our vote and voice by passing powers to the European Union We allowed the EU to impose laws we did not want To levy taxes we disagreed with And to spend our money as they saw fit Brexit is designed to recall those lost powers | xxxxxy

28/5/2020 06:18 | An important month By JOHNREDWOOD | Published: MAY 28, 2020 The forces of Pessimism and defeat want the U.K. to seek an extension to the negotiating year with the EU. It is most important that the Prime Minister and Mr Frost refuse to countenance such a dreadful idea. There is nothing we could negotiate next year that we cannot negotiate this year. The U.K. made a mess of the negotiations under Mrs May who trusted the Official Civil service and liked advice that always meant the U.K. giving in on issue after issue. The present government has so far been as clear as Mrs May was muddled over what the U.K wants. It has rightly refused to accept the EU’s wish to settle fish first before anything else and make our fish a further payment to them. It has proposed a free trade agreement as the base of the future relationship but said no agreement would also work fine. There is no point in negotiating through June unless the EU changes its approach and understands we are not giving away powers over our fish, our laws or our money. The EU pretends we want to stay in the single market and customs Union, which we voted to leave. The U.K. just has to stay calm, be pleasant but show great resolve. We are not going to give in again and do not want some kind of Association Agreement putting has back under the EU Court and law | xxxxxy

27/5/2020 22:48 | Full sovereignty is fundamental to the UK’s success in the post-Brexit future. For it to be achieved a number of loose ends left by the Brexit withdrawal process must be tied up. Riddled with EU law it would enable the EU to restrict the UK’s competitiveness and encroach on the status of Northern Ireland itself in terms of sovereignty. It applies the politically charged EU State aid rules to the whole of the UK, giving the European Commission executive authority over important matters of UK economic policy such as tax relief or other incentivisations for UK businesses where these could in theory (in the judgement of the ECJ) distort trade across the Irish border. It also creates a border across the Irish Sea. As such, the end result is unworkable and is not the result the parties committed to achieve. Importantly, the EU has committed to recognise the UK’s ability to protect its single market. The Protocol would defeat this because it would restrict the UK from charging tariffs, as it entitled to do (under WTO law), to protect its businesses’ Northern Ireland operations from trade dumping and unfair subsidisations from EU producers – which already occur and are getting worse because of the economic effects of Covid19. | stonedyou

27/5/2020 21:51 | Someone ought to explain to BB that printing Scottish Sterling notes does not mean they've got a monetary system in place. He in all sincerity, but naively posted some graphics of Scottish notes as proof they had their own currency. We are bailing out Scotland big time once again over the lock-down. They are simply not a country of independent means, but do have a big stake in the Union. Pity they hate standard English and think anyone who speaks with neutral received pronunciation, is a Toooory. Unfortunately the class system in England is still based on regional accents and absolutely nothing to do with wealth. But you can get very wealthy if you have a sought after accent and become a speech coach. Richard Burton had to work very hard to get rid of his Pontrhydyfen accent to acquire that lugubrious voice that won him 7 Oscars. Dare I say it, he was a single facial expression actor. | gotnorolex

27/5/2020 21:46 | Well said jacko. Desperate tactics by the remoaners now. They won't give up, different guises and ploys so we need to be vigilant. Boris and his advisors including Cummings will be wise to it. No extension, leave no deal. | cheshire pete |
