03/1/2020 18:07 | "Minerve 23 Jan '20 - 14:48 - 288473 of 288498 0 0 1 BBC posted the truth on Brexit. Little Englander brains can't deal with the truth. The far Right bus has exited stage right. The current occupants from this thread look back to centre stage and mistake the BBC position as far left. Sadly the far Left bus has travelled in the opposite direction and make a similar mistake. All could benefit from a reality check. | bbalanjones
03/1/2020 17:59 | Complacent civil service needs a serious shake-up IAIN MANSFIELD january 3 2020, 12:01am, the times The British civil service was once the gold standard of the public sector but in recent years the famed Rolls-Royce engine has been stalling. The abolition of basic numeracy and literacy tests for fast-stream graduates, widespread abandonment of assessment boards — which put candidates for promotion through their paces — and increasingly rapid staff turnover have all damaged its ability to provide expert advice. In approximately a quarter of departments, a new minister will find four in 10 of their senior officials have been in post less than a year. Why is it that fresh policy solutions, from the independence of the Bank of England to Michael Gove’s education reforms, typically come from outside the civil service, often from think tanks? 03/1/2020 16:51 | GNR..what the BBC did in the past, is past, we are now in 2020. I hear that in the past the BBC were going to give OAP's of 75 and over a free licence, well they reneged on that saying things change. They surely do, there are now many Broadcasters who have to work hard for their viewers, make the BBC the same. If you and others want to subscribe to the BBC, you will have the choice. Don't you think that is fair, lets stop prosecuting people for something that should never have been a criminal offence. | cautios7

03/1/2020 15:31 | Joe Say/Cautios7........ Criticize editorial opinions and personalities, expose bias on news reporting but don't blame the BBC as an institution which will educate, upset, provoke or please, as is your wont! Information, education & entertainment is "The BBC" from production to news gathering to decimation. Without the BBC who started the whole technical rigmarole of designing and deploying the world's first transmitters circumventing the globe, first for radio then for TV. First for producing the BBC micro, a serious home computer with an operating language for it's "Computer Literacy Project". They pioneered very high quality sound reproduction and recording techniques set standards for vinyl master platters, inventing frequency compression for transmitting true hifi orchestral music. First in sports broadcasting to reach every corner of the Commonwealth."Open University" education production, filming intricate laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, "Sky at Night" with it's in depth astronomical and space-related topics, Only the BBC can make radio comedy programmes like "Round the Horne and all that followed. No period drama without them or indeed Monty Python! Could go on but I think you've got the gist of why I think we'd be poorer without this civilizing cultural institution! | gotnorolex

03/1/2020 15:19 | @k38 "I don't mind pay licence to BBC as long as they give up reporting the news" It's worse than just the news though as their political correct ideology seeps into ALL their programming from soaps, to dramas and even Doctor Who. | crossing_the_rubicon
03/1/2020 15:11 | "M2, that's an understandable reaction when confronted with a truth which challenges your shoddily constructed cobbled together interpretation of the world. I'd been interested to establish what precisely makes me a numpty though, can you back it up old boy? ;)" No need your doing a fine job by yer self you Numpty. | bargainbob |
