The news flow has been nothing short of spectacular over the last six months , certain to be a record year already for the company and still plenty of time for more case resolutions

Katie Perry (LCM funded) v pop star Katy Perry
Katy Perry appeals.
Suggests it must have been for more $$$ than I originally thought. Good times but certainly puts this case into FY24 now.

à-propos, I found this exegesis by LCM of the advantages to businesses of bringing their problems to LCM very interesting.

The claim against Rabah was for more than $14 million, such that the liquidator stood to make significant gains if LCM succeeded, with the liquidator entitled to 15% of the proceeds of the litigation. Rabah’s essential point was that LCM still required leave because the 15% deal meant that LCM’s predominant purpose was its prospect of earning 85%.

@L2B - where did you see that LCM has 85% of the claim?

Thanks L2B and Someuwin for being so eagle eyed and for sharing the news. You tend to announce them before the company which could be useful for trading the shares.

Seems to me that the resolutions are coming in more frequently.Bodes well I think.
I saw this the other day about Burford, not a share I follow but I share it in case it is of interest. 3 points for me that could have some relevence to us here.
1)Burford has new adopted a more conservative acccounting approach, the market likes it . We already have that .
2) Investment Cases are maturing. This should be the case with us as well, so a read across is possible.
3) BUR share price has done well, ours has not .... yet!

Jefferies: Burford Capital could enjoy a bumper 2023
Jefferies believes litigation finance group Burford Capital (BUR) could see its assets ‘mature in earnest’ this year.

Analyst Julian Roberts retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and target price of £18.20 on the Citywire Elite Companies AA-rated group, which gained 0.5%, or 5.5p, to £10.83 on Thursday.

He said 2023 could ‘be the year Burford’s large portfolio of litigation assets starts to mature in earnest.’

‘The company has identified 61 material legal milestones affecting its assets, of which 30 are final hearing of one kind or another, and could therefore lead to near-term cash recoveries,’ said Roberts.

‘The second half of 2022 appears to have shown material acceleration in case conclusions, and this is likely to continue.’

The dual-listed stock, at the behest of the US stock market regulator, changed its accounting to incorporate the time value of money and an expected final recovery of cases.

Roberts said this has ‘listed valuations, vindicating Burford’s assertion that it has taken a conservative approach, and hopefully satisfying the market that valuations have been rigorously scrutinised.’

1. Big win for LCM!

A purchased case from a liquidator.
LCM share 85% of $14.8m (remaining 15% to liquidator) + costs + interest
It's unclear if direct or 3PTY (2020 case is borderline).
www8.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/sign.cgi/au/cases/nsw/NSWSC/2023/590

2. PFAS settlement likely next FY.
www.comcourts.gov.au/file/Federal/P/NSD431/2020/3887497/event/31432939/document/2114380

3. Interesting on the google case, it didn't fail because google was not in the wrong but because action not representative - i.e. "it did not meet the bar for bringing a representative action, which requires the claim to be based on general circumstances that apply to the entire class rather than on individual circumstances, finding therefore that the claim would be bound to fail".
As pointed out, hopefully the early loss means minimal costs.

Big LCM win - PFAS settles before trial - $132.7m settlement.

Costs decided later but that will be a decent one.
