If you take into account the other big finance big dividend yield companies share prices fell (ABDN, PHNX and MNG) - I guess we would expect some pull back and perhaps it was over done. I'm hoping for a bounce on monday but it depends if the others bounce too.. Its like the three monkeys except there are four. |
Has anyone got the time line on t/u and results
I have 12 march as date but happy to be corrected.
have a good weekend |
yump re: 'Large businesses can generally only stay the same or get smaller, unless they’ve got a monopoly.'
Not sure I fully agree. I've found I've done much better with my investments since I moved to large cap stocks. Hence I go for Rio Tinto instead of AIM listed resources companies for example!
I particularly like these big, safe dividend payers as it makes me re-think where to invest the payouts each time. |
Sir Nigel had his strengths but if the share price was low he would have been the last person to break the group up Whereas our new ex-Mckinsey CEO would be the first person to do that That said I do hope to hold onto my shares for 20 plus years |
I don’t think the 300m surplus is correct , in that it must be a one off adjustment . The pbt is only 90m from the US. Once this is clarified it will help immensely. And to note 2025 surplus is due to lgen as deal completes end of year |

Very sensible comments. I suggest the dividend cover and financial impact of the JV over time need clarity from Simoes. I hope that will come out with the YE statement on 20 Feb.
That said, the new CEO is a breath of fresh air, entrepreneurial and a world away from Sir Nigel who I liked but didn't have a world view compared to our new CEO. |
Nothing controversial, but the |
Exactly... We have to wait until the Japanese actually buy the 5%. They might not. |
If the positives equal the negatives of the deal, or the market hasn’t figured out the net effect out yet, why should the share price rise? |
Can I see this shares bubbling. Oui. |
The chart reminds me to book my skiing holiday |
....The Japanese need the L&G share price to not bubble to enable them to buy the 5%. Its not rocket science.... A runaway share price BEFORE the deal doesn't work. Clearly the buybacks are paid for using the profits of the sale. Hopefully after the 3 year breathing space, L&G would be able to grow their new business to replace the old bit they sold... ... Its insane for the market to be thinking FOUR years into the future.... NUTS. What counts is next year, the year after and the year after that.... With FOUR years away, the investors should have enough confidence that L&G can grow their new US market with their Japanese partners... And four years away is POST TRUMP... Selling the American bit with Trump in power is a sensible de-risking in case a lose cannon ball went our way.. Well done L&G for thinking that Trump is dodgy... |
Extract article from Times today ;
Shares in L&G initially rose by as much as 8 per cent as analysts at first welcomed the deal. But most of the gains were later reversed on concerns that the jettisoned life assurance business has been responsible for a large portion of L&G’s surplus capital generation and that this would be foregone in future, reducing dividend cover. The shares ended the day up 2¾p, or 1.2 per cent, at 241¾p. |
Spud I just felt that the wording on your original post 7710 appeared to be factual. When in fact it was opinion No more on this |
Robb. I’m merely passing an observation - why are you insisting on being so argumentative?

ANGST
Need I say more.
Live and let live.
Have a nice weekend |
You're constantly negative so nothing new |
Quite extraordinary the share price movement today.
I had been advocating caution but even I was taken aback by how quickly the worm turned this morning/afternoon with all the angst being expressed on this board and others.
Will ruminate on this over the weekend and look again over the next few days if not weeks. After breaking above 244 and hitting above 260 was taken aback by the fall this afternoon.
Aviva reports on 27 February so in all likelihood will wait until then before making any further forays.
It is a quandry that will not be satisfied even then until we know what Simoes has planned .
So far he has not covered himself in glory.
Try to enjoy the weekend Fresh isa funds will be making their way into the market soon so will hopefully give some relief and give the share price a boost
Swings and roundabouts price goes up yield goes down(currently 8.56% as it stands)
Still not to shabby. Will be re working my amateur algos again. |
Did anyone join the analyst q&a or has it not happened yet ? I can’t find the link. There was a point noted by the RBC analyst this morning on dividend cover, specifically to the US protection and prt delivering 300m surplus capital this year, alongside 90m operating profit. This just needs to be expanded , it’s doesn’t make sense to me that the business will generate that level of surplus vs the small pbt - unless it’s some backbook restatement. I’d like clarity on that, as lgen is keeping the 2025 profits anyway, if it’s a one off, there is no issue at all on dividend cover. Did anyone join or have access to to the call? |
It used to but there's much less of it now |
But you have no evidence whatsoever that this is the case here. |
Maybe, but we all know that news of a confidential nature always leak to Market insiders first. spud |
