I see that Investors Chronicle have repeated their sell advice - so perhaps we should buy now?

Note via Citywire below:

Peel Hunt backs Latchways with 'buy' recommendation

Christopher Bamberry, analyst at Peel Hunt, has initiated coverage of safety products maker Latchways (LTC.L) with a 'buy' recommendation, citing its growing international reach and product development.

The analyst said Latchways has delivered impressive margins (24% in 2012) and a high return on capital (56% in 2012).

'With significant revenue growth opportunities through product development, new market penetration and further geographic expansion, we expect that these will continue into the long term,' he said.

The shares trade on 12.1x estimated 2013 earnings, which Bamberry noted is a 10% discount to the FTSE Support Services sector and a 3% discount to the historical average.

Shares in the group closed at 991p on Wednesday, down 1.5p or 0.2%.

Good to see these contract wins - I think it's the first time they have announced this type of news. It should help the share price and also helps to confirm 'jimijimone' note of Nov 14.

Bought in to Latchways as their order intake has picked up a lot in the second half of the year. Expect full year results to be good.
We have certainly seen orders on us for supplying some of their components vastly improve in the past couple of months.

Results roughly as expected and the share price has dropped a little but reasonably optomistic comments so I think I'm still comfortable with this share.

AHT results grabbed my attention also and led me to added LTC and SDY to my watchlist.

IMS reasonably reassuring, I thought, tho' we will probably see some share price drops with the interims in November?

I agree, it's increasing safety regulation that drives demand even where you're looking at maintenance and access rather than construction. LTC is a quality company with quality products. I'm just peeved that having waited to buy on a dip, the dip just got bigger. Sods law strikes again.

Having read the article I think it is complete tosh. The assertion that LTC "basically sells safety harnesses in a construction downturn" is rubbish. It supplies highly innovative, engineered products which are fully patent protected. And the construction industry, whilst important, is no longer as important as it once was in the wider scheme of things. This is journalism of the lowest order.

How annoying, having recently bought in. Back in June the IC said hold at a rather higher share price I know they don't get it right all the time but it does seem to have knocked the share price today.

Investors Chronicle has published a Sell tip in this weeks magazine - summary below:

Latchways' share price has retreated from its 12-month high of 1,238p, but at 990p it could be in for further falls. Broker N+1 Brewin recently downgraded current year forecasts by 5 per cent to pre-tax profits of £10.9m, giving EPS of 70.1p. That puts the shares on a PE ratio of 14 times - arguably a punchy rating for a business that, despite its niche, basically sells safety harnesses in a construction downturn. Exposure to the euro only makes the picture worse. Sell.

Yes but the key is the product innovation. Best pipeline in my memory and I've known about this company since before its IPO.

Jeffian - It's been on my 'watchlist' for a long time also. It's not just the high PE which has put me off but also the spread. I generally like to see a spread of 3% or less, OK I know that ADVFN is showing 5.5% at the moment which is not too bad for a small company. The recently announced 'special dividend' is a great temptation for me, perhaps the bond traders will turn their guns on Spain and we'll see another across the board write down before Xmas, then I might be unable to resist grabing a few of these lol.

It was down at 400 in late 2008 - you should have taken a chance!
I agree the PE ratio is very high but they do seem to keep going and it is a good long term sector.

Yes, it's a nice company in a sector (safety) which looks reasonably recession-proof. It's been on my radar for some time but I've never got round to buying any because it does look quite expensive on a multiple-of-earnings and whilst it's good to see any growth in current markets, I'm not sure that reported today warrants such a high PE ratio. I'm always waiting for it to 'fall back' for a buying opportunity - but it never seems to!
