trading update

Ian Cheshire, Kingfisher's Group Chief Executive, said:

"This is a solid performance in an uncertain environment for our customers right
across Europe. Consumer spending remains under pressure, notably in the UK, and
so we continued to focus on carefully targeting our promotions to drive
profitable sales, improving our cash margins and vigorously controlling our
costs. As a result our expectations for first half cash and profit outturn
remain on track.

"While we remain cautious about the outlook for consumer spending, we are
confident that the strengths of the Group and our well established self-help
initiatives leave us well-placed to continue our good progress over the balance
of the year."

Gotta agree with you The_Profit - some nice bounces showing on charts - me thinks I should be watching this one a bit more closely.

In my view, this stock may be offering good value in current market weakness.

Don't underestimate all the garden/house damage caused by the snows earlier this year. In my view, Kingfisher will experience significantly buoyant sales this year.

All IMO. DYOR.

strange how the thread is so quiet given the shares are so strong. any reason for the rise?

That is what I was wondering. Took me a couple of seconds to realise that the guy topping up at 1.50 was talking about 2008!

Not sure what's happening here as figures are already known...outlook will be key in tomorrows statement. Hope a gradual move towards 250+

but ftse is a bit toppy at the moment and some sort of correction is inevitable...bring kgf down with it.

BTW my son states that B and Q had a good bank holiday sale. He has been working o'time in order to restock the shelves following the sale.

I dont use charts to make buying/selling decisions but to support decisions that I have made on fundamentals.

The five year chart however is quite interesting and may explain the plateau we have reached.

In 2005 there was a fall to around £2 then a steady rise to £2:70 -£2:80 over the next 18 months. (I believe we will see that pattern again but probably over 2-3 years rather than 18 months).

Let us say that in 2005 there was steady buying over the next 18 months with some minor trading - now those buyers after 2007 have had no opportunity to get their money back and may now be seeing this as the time to recoup their losses. Therefore we are stuck.

I dont mind as the club bought at £1:73 and the divi is nice. We will sit out the ride until the share price recovers to around the £2:70 - £2:80 mark above when we will look at it again. If the share price falls I would suggest that we buy more unless there is a fundamental reason for the fall.

Also those people who got in only a year ago must have itchy fingers and be selling doubling their money in the process.
