Kabwe: first and foremost the copper line will come on-line, followed by the zinc and vanadium line. Hardly rocket science is it? Expect further statements pertaining to copper ‘deals’ in the near future.

The government of Zambia has defended its efforts to kick London-listed copper miner Vedanta Resources out of the country, in an escalating row over tax and alleged underinvestment.

The southern African nation’s national mining vehicle, ZCCM, is seeking to have Vedanta subsidiary Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), its partner in the country’s largest copper mine, placed into liquidation
Vedanta responded earlier this week by seeking to have the case referred to arbitration in South Africa.

The Zambian government, including its president, Edgar Lungu, has accused KCM of underpayment of dividends and taxes, as well as underinvestment in the mine, a crucial plank in Zambia’s copper-fuelled economy. It appointed a liquidator to run the company in May.

“We need the dividends from that mine to invest in schools, to invest in hospitals,” the Zambian information minister, Dora Siliya, said.

“We can’t keep talking like this over and over. We want a partner that we can work with so we can invest elsewhere. The time for mediation is over.”

Interesting question in the Zambian parliament re loss of revenues from copper due to Mopani shutdown. The reply by mining minister Richard Musukwa as follows.

"The losses envisaged to be created will have to be mitigated because in essence Mopani's production is not being affected. Mopani will continue to produce, in fact, they already have a stockpile of production. What we have asked Mopani, as we have been discussing with them, is to ensure that they take this material to other facilities around the country in order to process on their behalf.

This is common practice. You will note Mr Speaker, that several mining houses do not have the capacity and they rely on the capacities of their sister mining companies, so we are hoping that the losses will be mitigated by this process."

Beginning to regret that I got out of GPM early in the year to buy in here.. . I jest. But not altogether. I think we have some catch up due shortly.

Fine chrome for Windsor.

The second recovery circuit is expected to be brought on-line during the month of August which will further enhance the PGM extraction efficiencies. The Windsor PGM operation continues to target production at a processing rate of 60,000 tonnes per month.

When JLP commission the copper refining circuit they will produce 100% copper "cathode" from the anode.

The "slime" residue left behind could contain gold, silver and cobalt etc, which if commercial, can also be extracted.

I don't see JLP providing a copper refining service just for the copper.

Mike- think you are correct on all counts

Whats annoying in some ways is that Hernic is still bumbling along at 40,000 tpm. The flip side of that is of course the tailings life span is significantly extended.

Else nice and solid performance

I just want to check my understanding:

1. The Windsor project first extract the chrome (concentrate), then delivers the PGM rich material to Eland - am I right?
2. At the Elands refinery (recovery plant), PGM concentrate will be produced?
3. Both (1&2) are referred to as the Windsor project?
4. We have a JV with Northam to utilize their recovery plant at Eland... I thought it was an Agreement?

Glencore will have to send their copper concentrate to another smelter, JLP will only take the copper anode for refining.

Possibly GSG...

It's very accessible from Kabwe and vica versa with a major infrastructural highway and of course not too far.

Or it's also possible that we could end up with a royalty agreement for processing concentrate, similar to the Eland road deal. Again very coincidental that it's being refurbished in H2 and to come on line by the end of the year

PH, with the Mopani smelter shut for refurb until December, maybe Sable can be subbed Glencore's feed for the short term?

Still very much aligned to Glencores copper rhetoric for Zimbabwe, They release a statement on Wednesday so stick a reminder in your sky rockets for that one

It amazes me the number of pi's that never read the RNS's in full or misread them, just like today, some have sold, probably not reading the RNS properly. Just like deme, missed this:

"The Windsor chrome operation (previously referred to as the PlatCro chrome operation) has already contributed positively to chrome earnings ahead of projections as the Company continues to drive efficiencies and enhance performance."

Todays RNS shows very good continued progress, what's not to like.

Plat was wrong about them not using the tailings from Kabwe straight away. Not surprising as the mug knows nothing
