27/11/2024 10:38 | Just ignore pshevlin. He's bursting with bitterness and doesn't seem sound of judgment. | danieldanrichardson
27/11/2024 10:25 | So, to illustrate my point, pshevlin, you list other factors in the underperformance of the German economy but for the UK there is only one cause, namely Brexit? It is not as simple as that. Economics is, to say the least, "multi-faceted" and I'd suggest you consider some of these topics as well: The dis-inflationary effects Chinese participation in the world economy; the financial collapse of 2008 - 2010 and the subsequent consequences for interest rates; the pandemic (virtually stopping world trade); the temporary closure of the Suez canal (ditto); the war in Ukraine; the European-wide migrant situation (and the USA); high energy prices and the poor economic performance of European continent economies. It's much easier to attribute everything to Brexit though, isn't it? Reports often cite the decline in trade between the UK and EU as though that is the only consideration. Have you considered the substitution effects of finding other markets in the Rest of the World (ROW)? What is the overall trade balance? How much of the UK economy is in services rather than goods? I could go on, but I realise you don't want to hear unfashionable opinions. Stick to your "Brexit is bad" comfort blanket. | chestergreen
27/11/2024 09:58 | It would appear that the moderated thread has been taken over by the anti-democratic, pro-eu fawning europhiles, who's tears continuously flow. they refuse to accept the eu gangsters club is the slowest growing area in the world and declining at an alarming rate. Thankfully JLP aren't reliant on the eu and more on areas of growth.... | crankylad
27/11/2024 09:51 | I'm done. The blood has been drawn. | pshevlin
27/11/2024 09:50 | This board is just turning into a squabble fest with the occasional half decent comment/observation dropped in.....but not often. | wet your knot
27/11/2024 09:47 | Is that a quote Kenny? Ah, yes. I didn't think it would be Neitzsche. Gladiator (film) 2000. Read abook maybe. | pshevlin
27/11/2024 09:46 | Chester. No. It's because of several other very bad decisions aroung energy and the lack of R&D in Digital Industries. It happened to the UK in the 70's with deindustrialisation. The UK recovered (until Brexit that is) | pshevlin
27/11/2024 09:45 | Pshevlin .. "The time for honoring yourself will soon be at an end." 25 years ago we had proper teachers and kids went straight into jobs. Now too many come out of school with mental issues , lack of confidence and needing support - well done Ps …you did a great job on our kids. Fu | kennyp52
27/11/2024 09:44 | Try living in a society with no teachers Kenny. Not that you seem to have benefited much! | pshevlin
27/11/2024 09:43 | So, what do the reports say Chester, particularly about the missing 40 billion? UK no mates is the main problem. The country is shockingly weaker. | pshevlin
27/11/2024 09:41 | Pshevlin, The German economy isn't doing very well. Is that because of Brexit too? | chestergreen
27/11/2024 09:37 | Do you understand what the reports you quote are saying? Or do you just listen to the Brexit bashing headline? You're in danger of becoming a snob when you describe yourself as "highly educated" and that's a mistake that people made in the referendum campaign. If a right-of-centre commentator made such a statement, there would be howls about "privilege". I received a Tertiary level of education too and can appreciate a nuanced discussion which a BB format doesn't facilitate. I know enough of political tactics to know that if something is repeated often enough, it becomes accepted as a fact - even if it's not true. | chestergreen
27/11/2024 09:31 | Teaching for 25 years living off the taxpayer .. says it all 🤷a | kennyp52
27/11/2024 09:30 | In previous societies there were two ways of dealing with cleverer than average people, elevate them to the highest levels or burn them. Seems like we have entered a burning phase! That never ended well. | pshevlin
27/11/2024 09:14 | Teaching for twenty five years confirmed me in the same opinion Ade! | pshevlin

27/11/2024 08:52 | Adejuk, Brexit is not "costing 4% of GDP". Just because you read it in the Guardian doesn't make it true! | chestergreen
27/11/2024 08:34 | remember the first law of holes? normally, i refrain from politics on bb. however this bb is a good one on which to cross my red line. it has global reach. done. | adejuk |
