The negative tone of yesterday's briefing may have been set up as a counterbalance for Boris to sell the imminent Brexit deal as a success, when history suggests he will have caved in to the EU in a last minute fold.

mro - measles is nastier than you recall.

world heath org says:

Accelerated immunization activities have had a major impact on reducing measles deaths. During 2000– 2018, measles vaccination prevented an estimated 23.2 million deaths. Global measles deaths have decreased by 73% from an estimated 536 000 in 2000* to 142,000 in 2018.

Most years the flu vaccine is very effective at preventing Influenza infections. However, only around 40% of "flu" cases are due to the influenza virus. The other 60% are due to other viruses that the vaccine does not protect against.

This is why you can still get "flu" in spite of being vaccinated.

mroalan, That was the days before vaccine and probably best to get those while young then but it didn't stop measles in particular having some very serious side effects as does whooping cough. Vaccines have been a godsend. Chicken pox, I think we do still have a bit of a cavalier attitude to that.

I can remember my son coming home with chicken pox and i asked if he was unwell, and other than the spots he was well, so i sent him to school and the school sent him home so i sent him back, as when the spots show the person is not infectious and the teachers didnt know this, i also pointed out its best if the kids get the virus while they are young rather than later in life.

In the UK if you look at the hospital admittance figures and the number of deaths it shows that 26% of those admitted are dying, that's not just those in intensive care.
The actual % may be a bit lower as I believe all CV deaths are included not just those in hospital.

Chestnuts, that's an odd one, can't say I've ever had any after effects of the jab just found it to be infective, or according to my doctor I just catch the wrong strain.

Mro,

That report is interesting. The thing is, the flu vaccine can induce flu. I often get flu symptoms a couple of days after having the vaccine. Sometimes, I even have to retire to bed for a day. If the symptoms of having the Covid vaccine are similar, then I really don't see a problem.

However, what does concern me is that the anaphylactic reaction of some people. That can be life threatening, and the UK has now stopped giving it to people with bad allergies. The other area of significant concern is that they still haven't tested the impact on fertility of the covid vaccine. People like Mike Yeadon, are concerned that it some circumstances, it may alter the female body's ability to make a placenta. I would think the harm of being made infertile vastly outweigh the harms of the virus in women of child bearing age.

In those circumstances, I would have thought that no women of child bearing age should take the vaccine unless and until the impact on fertility has been tested and it is proven to be safe.

The other thing to keep an eye on is the %-age of people who have those "Health Impact Events". It seems to be rising along with the number of people vaccinated, suggesting there's some sort of delayed reaction. Something to keep an eye on.

mro - I don't know who runs that website but the last sentence is interesting:

"The findings and conclusions in this report are those of the authors and do not necessarily represent the
official position of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention".

I've had flu injections for the past five years, had three bouts of flu in that time all pretty serious (for flu) with 3-4 weeks totally 'out of it' on each occasion. Doctor told me I was unlucky..

mro - I doubt it will hold back the flood.

Aren't reactions to vaccine to be expected in some people - as with many medicines.
Are 6 more serious cases in 120,000 a large number?

I don't have an answer, not able to judge, as I'm not a medic and don't know the normally acceptable standards.

Are you?

French Official says France won - lol. Who would’ve believed it, MT.

Suspect as usual, the reality is far different, and in a few weeks folk will move on.
