This is a very strange action to take and I wouldn't trust it at all - bit late now though.

Football shares are and have been the biggest con ever.

'After reporting a 36.4% jump in revenue to 163.5 million pounds, and a 42% surge in pre-transfer fee profits to 32.3 million pounds, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur (TTNM) announced it would be de-listing from AIM to become a private company. The board felt that as a floated company, it would be restricted in its ability to secure funding to increase the capacity of the club's stadium. Small shareholders who sell their shares upon the de-listing will be delighted to know they will have share certificates returned to them as a memento. The shares dived 11p to 35p.'

Good win at Wolves now for Liverpool. Hopefully share price will increase shortly.

The other side of the story from TTNM recent RNS - it does not look that good for planning permission - still plenty of disagreement and certain delays - possible costs could be £400m.

I expected a bounce in the share price today as they are now in Champions League - but there is plenty of small buys but the price has hardly shifted.

Deloittes have just brought out their annual report of Europen football which gives a breakdown on the top clubs on Europe from a financial perspective.
TTNM come 15th.

You have to give your email address and you can look at the report instantly. Just useful background info.

TTNM now guaranteed place in Europe as Portsmouth have not been allowed to enter the competion so the top 7 teams get into Europe and 8th placed Everton are 10 points behind TTNM with only 3 games to play - 9 points.

50,000 shares just bought for 71p - higher than the existing trading range of 67-70p. Followed by a small buy of 3500 shares at 69.1p.

Could be some interest in the share price now as the next few matches could decide if TTNM are in the Champions or Europa League - the Champions League is far more lucrative so lets hope they stay in 4th place.

The TTNM 1st half year accounts (to 31 Dec 2009) state that they lost £2m from gate receipts not being in Europe at all in the 2009/10 season and £1.5m loss in Sponsorship and Corporate.

If they get into the Champsions League I assume they will make that money in 2010/11 and you get £3m to get into the CL and £2.4m if get into Group stage (TTNM would initially be in the Play Offs which they need to beat another team over 2 games to get into the Group stage) and you get £0.6 every game if you win and £0.3 if you draw any match).
Assuming TTNM get into the Group stage and win a few games (do not get past the Group stages) they could be in for approx £8m from UEFA (a very rough guess) and £3.5 from tickets/corporate/sponsorship = £11.5m.
Their total revunue for year ended June 2009 was £113m so that could equate to an additional 10% revenue. Not sure how that translates into profits what with new signings that may occur, stadium build costs etc.
I have not found the revenue figures they would get from the Europa Cup if they came 5thh/6th.
These are very rough figures so do your own research please.

What price a takeover here ??

Katsy, you should know that the preference shares are not mentioned in the total voting rights RNS because PREFERENCE SHARES DO NOT HAVE VOTING RIGHTS, by definition. They are called preference shares because if a company is wound up they have PREFERENCE over the ordinary shareholders in the event that there is any money left over after the creditors have been paid. Preference shares usually pay a fixed dividend. Preference shares seem to have gone out of fashion these days. I presume advfn doesn't show them because they are not quoted? I've been buying shares for over 30 years; I presume you are a recent dabbler. ENIC has done a deal with Alan Sugar to buy his shares. They probably agreed a price some time ago; in the meantime takeover speculation has pushed the Spurs share price higher than that price. Because of Stock Market regulations ENIC is required to make the same offer it made, to Sugar, to the rest of the shareholders. ENIC realises that if the share price stays much above the offer price you would be stupid to accept the offer because if you want to sell then you would do better selling in the market. ENIC say they want to keep the AIM quote for Spurs so they obviously dont want to buy all the shares. If, as seems unlikely, ENIC receive too many shares in the offer, so that they cant keep the AIM quote, they would have to place some so they can keep the quote. It looks likely they don't want many more than those they are buying from Sugar. I presume the share price will stay higher than the offer price because there will be a lot of speculation that this deal could flush out other bidder(s) keen on making an offer for Spurs. I presume that ENIC were worried that a predator might have bought out Sugars 14%, so they made their move. I believe that when ENIC originally bought out Sugar they had an agreement that they could buy out the rest of Sugar's holding at a price of not less than 80p per share. Perhaps ENIC think its the right time to buy Sugar out.
