06/9/2018 11:11 | It took the US, a largely non footballing Nation, to bring down Blatter's FIFA Mafia crime family after the EU and European Government's let them brazenly run their multi billion dollar empire's criminal activities with impunity for decades. Good to see the US now leading the fight to stop large corporations based in tax havens to offshore profits, from using taxpayers to hugely subsidise their low/minimum wage employment costs. US Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced his new BEZOS legislation with a press conference today. BEZOS stands for stop Bad Employers by Zeroing Out Subsidies - it is a highly direct message to Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, who he has accused of "corporate welfare". Sanders says the bill is to create a “100% tax on corporations with 500 or more employees equal to the amount of federal benefits received by their low-wage workers.” | mount teide
06/9/2018 10:56 | Mr R - and it was Luxembourg's wire tap king who famously said “When it becomes serious, you have to lie” when accused of lying about EU matters! | mount teide
06/9/2018 10:41 | JT, I can understand why you are still drawn to the Fuji, stunning colours detailed there. Looking forward to some reviews on that Canon, I am sure they will find some issues/faults though, maybe we are too spoilt these days :) | bootie64
06/9/2018 10:06 | The equivalent of the annual NHS budget is lost by the EU to corruption each year and they won't publish their own report in to it..go figure. hxxp://www.euronews. | mr roper
06/9/2018 09:54 | And when finished reading about Selmayr, go back to 2013 and look at how his boss, Juncker left his role as luxembourg PM. | mr roper
06/9/2018 09:49 | The EU is fundamentally undemocratic. The UK is more democratic, but does have room for improvement. | 7kiwi
06/9/2018 00:54 | BofA - the answer to your question was at the start of my reply followed by a comparison with the EU. You seem very touchy about anyone shining a strong light on the appalling lack of democracy, blatant maladministration and brazen corruption endemic within the EU Institutions. Why? | mount teide
06/9/2018 00:30 | ...and again this time on f20 and ISO 400 Beautiful clarity and colour. I’ll stop now. Just wanted to share my findings | jtcod
06/9/2018 00:19 | Fuji GFX 50S photo In order to get the dramatic sky this photographer shot at f26 and ISO 400 which allowed for a 14sec exposure without over exposing. What is remarkable is that the photo is so detailed and sharp on such settings. Testament to the sensor and lens. Had he forgone the dramatic sky and shot say f5.6 and ISO 100 this photo would have been noticeably sharper and more detailed and yet I can hardly imagine that being possible given the clarity we can already see. This is a remarkable system I think. | jtcod

05/9/2018 23:59 | BofA - a democracy where every single member of the Government has been elected - unlike the EU Commission where not a single one of them has been elected and yet collectively have the sole authority to make new laws that 500m people have to comply with. Wherever you look in the EU institutions every effort has been made to remove any trace of democracy: The three EU pillars are: The European Commission - it is entirely appointed - there is no democratic element The Council of Ministers - Decision making in now almost entirely made by qualified majority voting. The UK has 29 votes while Malta has three - that means per head of Maltese population they have 15 times more influence in the Council of Ministers than the UK population does. The European Parliament - the Maltese are 10 times better represented than the British per head of population. What sort of a democracy is that ? Its not one person one vote but, a totally gerrymandered voting system to fully support the federalist political objectives of the European Union. And then perhaps the most scandalous is the European Court - the rule of law is essential to any understanding of democracy. It is the foundation stone that democracy is built upon. The European Court has very serious flaws. Firstly, it is a political court. It is committed to pushing the federalist, integrationist agenda without the support of the people. But it also breaks, has broken and continues to break one of the fundamental principles of justice - which is no man must be judge in his own cause. During the financial crisis the EU Nation State Government's said to the EU, this crisis is so big the EU should not increase wages in line with the old formulae as provided for in the treaties if there is a sufficient crisis. The Commission whose salaries were about to be cut said NO, and took the Council to the European Court. The judges sat there and thought, if we agree with the council we will be cutting our own wages. So even in the worse financial crisis in most of our lifetimes, the court ruled it was not sufficient and that they should be paid more, undermining that fundamental point of justice. What Sovereign Nation today in their right mind would want to join such an organisation? Other than an Eastern or Southern European economic basket case looking for huge cash handouts and hundreds of highly paid EU jobs for its political and bureaucrat elite. Tell the US electorate that from next week they were going to be Governed by 28 unelected Latin Americans based in Caracas, who had sole authority to make US Laws and that the US would now have a completely open border to 625 million Latin Americans - and they would think you were completely mad. | mount teide

05/9/2018 22:07 | MT - interesting that you talk about democracy, as that means a lot of different things to different people. At a local level, I live in a labour area in Yorkshire - always has been, always will be, even though I am (on the whole) Tory aligned. How much democracy do you think I enjoy? At a national level, I can vote for Theresa May or Jeremy Corbyn. I'd rather vote to fire them out of a canon towards the sun. The system doesn't support the introduction of new parties, so not a lot of democracy there eh?Unless you have money a la Aaron Banks, you can do nothing but vote for the people chosen for us by vested interests. No different to the EU I would say. All we do when we leave the EU is give power to one of 2 parties that are pretty dire, which will have less checks and controls on them in future.I'd love to know what type of democracy you think we currently enjoy. | beeks of arabia
05/9/2018 19:01 | A digital game or a powerful weapon against boardroom crime? "This is a visual representation of the links between two people involved in a complex fraud inquiry. It shows the emails they sent and received and the people copied in. It also depicts messages to which no-one was copied in. The details in the example aren't from a "live" investigation but from the Enron corporate fraud case. It's being used to train SFO staff how to use the system, OpenText Axcelerate, which has the latest machine-learning technology built in." | jtcod

05/9/2018 18:20 | Mattjos, how are you looking to play this (apart from AAZ). Other copper stocks or something else? | homebrewruss
05/9/2018 17:44 | bit more market intel from my personal business network: Manufacturers of EV motor controllers are reporting record sales this year as the drive ramps up away from i/c engines to electric power. All sectors very buoyant from Electric Mobility scooters, bikes, golf carts, industrial tuggers, cleaning and vacuum machines, through to the largest off-highway dump & haul trucks (hydraulics being switched to electric actuators and energy recovery systems). AC motor & motor controller pairings are nearing price parity with DC permanent magnet motors/controllers. New legislation is starting to encourage EV adoption in construction equipment used in city centres as i/c engines are outlawed on the grounds of pollution, noise & vibration. | mattjos
05/9/2018 17:20 | For the photographers here: Canon have come out fighting with their new EOS R full frame mirrorless system. Have to say that whilst the new lenses are not cheap canon has used that extra RF Mount space (and resultant light benefit) very well in the designs. A 24-70mm f2 zoom! - talk about stick it to Fuji GFX system on criticism over lack of fast lenses. The new Canon camera is cheap also compared to the medium format Fuji at half the price. Canon seems to have addressed criticism regarding dynamic range. The dual-pixel Auto focus is now the fastest in the world at 0.04sec and can focus down to -6EV with an f1.2 lens. That is bonkers. Video is not on a par with Sony or Panasonic but I suspect this is aimed at semi-pro to pro shooters who shoot stills only. Particularly when the sister version comes out minus a colour filter. It’s going to be a lot harder to persuade pro’s to leave Canon after this offering I suspect. They will already have a great many EF lenses (up to 120 available) that can still be used with this system. I think Nikon will continue to get squeezed by Sony and Canon in the FF space with Fuji continuing to carve-out an upper quality niche in medium format. Will the new Nikon mirrorless system do enough to save them over time? Who knows. I am looking forward to seeing the reviews of this new Canon system, though at this stage something still draws me to the upcoming Fuji GFX 50R Medium format offering. Maybe some pixel-peeping will change my mind if Canon can get close enough. I still have a number of Canon L lenses. :-) Canon EOS R First 4 new lenses EF to RF system adapters with built in filters. - Nice idea | jtcod
05/9/2018 14:24 | BofA - Blinkered Hatred? No, its called democracy - you know, where the electorate is Governed by people they can democratically remove by election. The late Tony Benn detested the EU which he famously described as "inherently undemocratic" - how right he was. As Tony said the first and most important question any voter in a democracy should ask a member of the governing class is: "how can we get rid of you if we don't like you?". Unless they answer with: "you can vote me out in an election" he said you're living in a dictatorship! | mount teide |
