This dissatisfied shareholders strategy doesn't happen enough imo:2 July 2018Premier Foods plc (the "Company") Premier Foods plc issues shareholder circular Premier Foods plc announces that it has today issued a circular to shareholders pursuant to Section 314 of the Companies Act 2006 that contains, amongst other matters, a statement by Oasis Management Company Ltd and Oasis Management (Hong Kong) LLC on behalf of Oasis Investments II Master Fund Ltd, which is the beneficial owner of 9.34% of the Company's shares (each or together, as the context requires, "Oasis"). Background On 21 June 2018, the Board announced that it had been made aware that Oasis intends to vote against the re-election of Gavin Darby as Chief Executive Officer at the Company's AGM on 18 July 2018 and was encouraging others to do the same. Since then, Oasis has made a number of highly critical comments about Premier Foods and Gavin Darby. On 26 June 2018, the Board received notice that Oasis wished to exercise its right to request the Company to circulate to all shareholders, on its behalf, a statement in the form provided by Oasis

Mauldin- Pension DeficitsThe Money Isn't ThereLast year, a World Economic Forum study looked at six developed countries (the US, UK, Netherlands, Japan, Australia, and Canada) and two emerging markets (China and India) and found a $400 trillion retirement savings shortfall by 2050. That's how much more is needed to ensure everyone of retirement age will receive 70% of their working income, including government, employer, and personal savings-but mostly government.hTTp://www.mauldineconomics.com/frontlinethoughts/

if UK rates were 0.5% and GBP Libor 2.3% for less than 12mts, that would probably signal a major liquidity crisis that noone had spotted apart from us geniuses ;0)

dollar libor may well be 2.3% as FED rates are 2.0%. Would seem likely.

which libor rate is 2.3%?

even out to 12M libor it's only 0.96% according to the link below:

I haven't looked lately Sithuk. Are you seeing cheap fixed or floating rate mortgages? Fixed may be tranches that were fixed by lenders on the Money market when rates were lower and haven't been exhausted yet. I am just guessing though.

I wonder why mortgages are still so cheap when LIBOR is 2.3%. The Term Funding Scheme and Funding for lending scheme are over. No more free money to keep blowing the housing bubble.

Hi MR
I think it’s a typo. I think they meant to say IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2018

strange comparison, JT..

Savings over 3 quarters = 43% of total profit growth in one quarter. Wouldn't it be better to compare one quarters savings and show it as a percentage of one quarter's profit growth
--------------------------------------------------------------
"In the first three quarters of 2018, companies in the S&P 500 saved $30 billion thanks to the corporate tax rate dropping to 21 percent from 35, per Stephen Gandel’s math. Given the size of the companies involved, $30 billion may not sound like much. But it represents 43 percent of total profit growth in the quarter from a year earlier:"

43% of US Q1 2018 earnings growth is simply the Trump tax windfall

It’s interesting to see how different fund investment strategies perform in different investment environments over time.

Here is a performance graph for one management firm. It’s clear that a Trading strategy becomes very profitable in times of turmoil because of its natural bias toward liquidity. It’s only as good as the guy running the fund of course but it would appear to favour that strategy in times of upset for logical reasons. At first glance, after the dot.com bubble the performance looks pretty uninspiring but when you look closely it was still blowing the others out of the water.

I am convinced that liquidity is the key because in times of extreme turmoil the opportunities are obvious to everyone. Even an idiot could make money, if only they had the cash. A trader is always liquid and so his strategy has almost an unfair advantage over the others during those periods.

I am not a trader myself but it’s a useful lesson I think.
