orinocor - In public practically all concerned in the United States, Europe and the Ukraine have already said that the Crimea is Russian and I understand in private even Zelensky himself has also been saying the same.

If peace meant only giving up and the Ukraine officially recognising Crimea as Russian territory, Zelensky would grumble and complain about it in public, however in private he'd be saying where's the dotted line for me to sign on.

Almost certainly Trump will win the U.S. Presidential election and I think early in 2025 after he has been sworn in he'll offer peace talks with Russia.

I can see Trumps initial offer would be to recognise as Russian territory all the areas they held from 2014 to February 2022, while Russia's initial stance would be Crimea and the 4 oblasts of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.

Russia will will need to have at least a land bridge to the Crimea and protect Crimea's fresh water supply.

It seems to me reasonable to say in the end that both sides will accept ceding the Crimea, the whole of the oblasts of Luhansk and Donetsk and the areas of the oblasts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson that Russia holds at the time the peace talks started. This would give Russia a land bridge to Crimea and protect Crimea's fresh water supply in return Russia will give up its claim to any part of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia on the Western bank of the Dnipro river and any part of Northern Zaporizhzhia that Russia doesn't hold.

In March several senior Ukrainian Generals said the Ukraine needs 100,000 new men to just bring current operational Brigades up to full strength and they need a further 150,000 new men (total of 1/4 million new men) if the Ukraine are going to hold their current positions against the Russian army.

These generals went on to say they would require a further 100,000 new men if the Ukraine was to have another 2023 type Summer offensive and 150,000 on top of that (1/2 million new men) if they were to have any chance of succeeding in pushing a wedge all the way through to the Black Sea.

From what I've been reading Ukraine are demanding the return of all occupied territories including Crimea. They also want hundreds of billion dollars in reparations as well as thousands of Russians, including Putin, to be tried for war crimes.

I think that's a good deal for Russia and they should accept it.

It's great news to hear that Zelensky is finally talking seriously about peace negotiations. Better late than never.
The Russians seems happy to accept 4 eastern oblasts, and Ukraine remaining permanently out of NATO. Zelensky would be wise to take that deal.

Zelensky said the following today:

"Ukraine does not want to prolong the war, does not want it to last for years. We have many wounded and killed on the battlefield, we should put a settlement plan on the table within a few months."


This is the first time Zelensky is saying peace negotiations should start.


It seems to me reasonable to say that Zelensky knows he is unable to mobilise enough men to keep the fighting going. As far as I understand over the past 6 months for every 3 Ukrainian men killed on the battlefield they are only able to mobilise 1 man to replace these 3.

Zelensky has now seem to come to the realisation that within a year the number of Ukrainians fighting on the frontlines will be 25% plus less then today and therefore the Ukraine will lose due to a shortage of man power.

Lavrov is so funny and predictable. None of this is independent nations turning against Russia. None of this is Russia's fault. None of this is due to the US 'having a word'? Nah. It's all down to China, which accounts for more than 70% of the bloc's GDP, being scared of having its power and influence usurped by the likes of Ethiopia, Cuba, Venezuela, Laos, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Thailand...

BRICS nations have decided to "take a pause’ in terms of admitting new members, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"By the overwhelming majority, the ten nations decided to ‘take a pause’ with new members to ‘take in’ the new members who have doubled the association," he said .

A meeting of the BRICS foreign ministers was held in Nizhny Novgorod on June 10 and 11. This was the first ministerial meeting following BRICS expansion in 2023 when Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE joined Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa as full-fledged BRICS members.
