30/1/2024 11:32 | 'Huge change' to UK's food supply from tomorrow - and prices could riseBy Brad Young, Money teamFears have been raised that new checks on EU goods coming to the UK could result in shortages, price hikes and shrinkflation. The post-Brexit policy, known as the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM), will require documentation for many food, animal and plant products, such as eggs, meat, dairy and alcohol. It comes into play from tomorrow.EU exporters are likely to pass the costs of the new processes on to consumers in the UK - or even pull out of the market altogether, experts and trade associations have warned. "The fundamental change is huge to the nation's food supply," Nigel Jenney, chief executive of the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC), told the Money blog."I would certainly expect to see price rises because these costs simply couldn't be absorbed by the industry | gozzie2

26/1/2024 22:43 | "J D Wetherspoon plc commences an Equity Buyback Plan for 19,312,523 shares, representing 15% of its issued share capital, under the authorization approved on November 16, 2023. J D Wetherspoon plc commences share repurchases on December 4, 2023, under the program mandated by the shareholders in the Annual General Meeting held on November 16, 2023." Reckon they have bought back a lot less than half the amount mandated. Given the statement on debt remaining the same this year they must be pretty confident that they have the headroom to continue purchases. We should know more in March (22nd) with the results. Provides a nice backstop to the share price in the intervening period. | gwatson56
26/1/2024 20:57 | The buybacks certainly give clarity that the board sees no problem with debt levels. | chester9
26/1/2024 16:54 | Two large buys total 321,500. Trades time stamped 14.49 reckon it was more buybacks. Then another 320,000 twenty minutes later all at £8.38....circa £5.4M .... RNS Monday 7am ? | gwatson56

26/1/2024 07:56 | Popped into 2 Spoons Wednesday, first one big queue at the Bar so walked about to find a Table and ordered from there, 2nd one was much quieter but a couple of hours later. Not unusual in that one though midweek. Share buybacks on back on 310k @ 835p - RNSs not showing on Monitors for some reason. | isis
26/1/2024 07:47 | Good to see JDW buying again. I hope this will keep the upward price momentum going. The mandate has been there for at least the last 7 years so JDW are unlikely to use the full mandade IMO. | darrin1471
26/1/2024 07:05 | Looks like the new base for purchases is £8.35 …. 310,000 bought yesterday. Quite a few more to buy if the full mandate is taken up by JDW. | gwatson56
