"And there was a bigger sell-off in Jardine Lloyd Thompson, which acts as a broker for insurers. As well as the squeeze from lower premium rates, JLT will also be suffering the fallout from Hurricane Eliot the intervention of Eliot Spitzer, the New York attorney general, whose attack on rival Marsh & McLellan has in effect ended contingent commissions (fees paid by insurers based on the volume of business). Merrill Lynch told its clients to get out of JLT, arguing that the scandal will force brokers to accept lower fees. JLT shares put in the worst performance by a mid-cap, down 16.5p at 460.5p."

"Insurance broker Jardine Lloyd Thomson bucked the strong trend in the FTSE 250, falling 16.5p to 460.5p after a Merrill Lynch downgrade.

Moving to a straight "sell" recommendation, the American broker said the shares, which have risen 10% in the last month, are now trading above fair value."

Now today, Panmure say "buy" - target of 650p!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Panmure says buy Carpetright , Capital Radio (LSE: CAP.L - news) and GWR and sell Chrysalis.

The broker says buy Jardine Lloyd Thompson (LSE: JLT.L - news) (650p price target) and Westbury (believing it to be a potential takeover target).

I have to say I was a bit suspicious when I saw this. Made me think it was bound to go up:

UBS reiterates 'reduce' rating on Jardine Lloyd Thompson; cuts price target to 370p from 390p.

Could be a bid Honiton. I do hope so. I have had these shares now since they were six pounds odd and am getting a bit fed up with them. I suppose time will tell. This company seem to be a bit short on information at times. TUBB

Fundamentals of company are strong. Good management, expanding through acquisition.

Interims due out late July.

UBS slashed its target price from 490p to 370p and downgraded the stock from neutral to reduce following a meeting with JLT finance director George Stuart-Clarke.
Analyst Ben Cohen said he is worried about trading at the company's Risk Solutions division, which accounted for 65pc of the group's profits in 2003. UBS cut its 2004 and 2005 earnings per share expectations for the group by 10pc and 9pc respectively.
